Does that hat look green? It's not supposed to...the ribbon is gray-green. I did try to correct the color on that one to try to better reflect what it looks like...I may have overshot the mark.

    more new stuff...

Canadave, I have a jillion different "favorite searches" which (hopefully) give me a good look at anything I think might be worth looking at...and I do see some pretty large hats from time to time. If I see anything in your size, I will give you a holler, I promise. Bogie, my size is really...

    Adam Executive questions...

fedoralover, I keep telling myself that over and over again... the big thing is that I still don't have an Adam, or a decent Dobbs, or a MacLaughlin. Or a HJ. That's kind of what keeps me bidding...so I can give 'em all a try. To think...at the beginning of December, I had six hats...

    more new stuff...

Thanks for the kind words, all. I got to admit - I'm a lucky man. I still don't have an Optimo, though - I think it's easier for me to spend money when it's in little $10 - $30 chunks. It does add up, though. And as AndyKev will tell you: you get pickier. Fedora, I have two Cavanaghs and...

    more new stuff...

Finally, here's my really great catch of the week, maybe just because I don't have anything else quite like it, in terms of color. And both this and the Mallory you see above cost me...$8 and $3, respectively (plus shipping, but it was no big deal). As usual, I thought I was getting some...

    more new stuff...

This is another Mallory. It's a very thin, tight felt. I dig the tall crown. One note of interest, something I've never seen on a Mallory: the size tag is made of cloth, and it looks like the writing on that cloth is actually embroidered in there!

    more new stuff...

A couple more things I got this week (1950s HJ still MIA, sadly): This is my favorite of the new items. It's a Romer Beaver Twenty. The color, for some reason, seems kind of dark in these photos. It's not quite this dark - sort of a taupe. The ribbon is a greyish green. This hat is...

    Apology?

Fedora, A question: you mentioned (correct me if I'm wrong), that we should kill everybody who harbors these terrorists and the like. I'm with you there, but, my question is: how do we know who that is? If my neighbor harbors a terrorist, should you burn down my house because I live next...

    Why did brims get stingy?

I'm curious, though - while brims in the 60s were certainly stingy, all of my 30s and 40s catalogs show stingy brimmed hats as well as what we are accustomed to seeing from those eras (and those were always listed as "our most popular" or "America's Most Popular," etc.). In fact, if there's...

    Indy to Bogie?

Plus (and don't get me wrong, I love the Akubras), I think that thinner felt is better for C-crowns. Bogies hats were definitely a lightweight felt, and I feel like, in old films, hats with C-crowns always seemed to have a lot of crinkles in the edges of those crowns. I think that'd be...

    Apology?

marlowe, that's some food for thought for sure. art - I agree with you completely. What I didn't really mention in my post was, while I would rather be respected than feared, I think it's probably too late. I wish thre were another way around it, but I think we're doing some of the only...

    Real world boots

I personally have had great success with my Aldens. On the traction front, my shoe repair guy put a no-slip thin runner layer on top of the neoprene part of the soles of my shoes and that worked like a charm. I wore one pair day in and day out for three years, and it only recently has...

    Apology?

Here's the problem I see - and I'm not a very political person, so here comes what I suspect is a very uninformed opinion. i would appreciate being informed, so set me straight where necessary. No matter what happens, the problem (as I see it) is a bunch of folks who want to kill us. I...

    The Brown Derby

That book sounds awesome. I will have to track one down. What's it called? I have a couple of postcards depicting the Wilshire Brown Derby. It was located directly across the street from the Ambassador Hotel and was owned (I believe) by Gloria Swanson and her husband, both of whom lived in...

    Where...how?

I probably store mine in a lame way...and I'm thinking I probably have to do something about it. I have two hat racks, both of which hold 8 hats a piece. Then I have the closet in the office, which has a big old tube record player/radio in it, on which sits all of my hat blocks and brim...

    Some of my newest acquisitions!

OK, I have a problem. ...and that is, I'm running out of room. No, seriously, Those seven hats were over, say, two weeks' time. And four of those hats are from auctions that included two hats in the auction. So, really, in two weeks, I only won four auctions. Comparatively, I have...

    I can't believe I found this!!!

eBay is the source of all of my hats, except for two I bought at online vintage shops, me Akubras, and my PBBM. So it's been pretty good to me. AndyKev, I agree that it seems to have dried up a bit. I haven't seen too much great stuff on there lately - I've bought a few things in the last...

    Some of my newest acquisitions!

Kilgour - Glad to be of service, my friend. I'm working on the "47 head" thing as we speak. Those mafia scientists (because you obviously can't use the legitimate scientists for these kind of projects, what with 'ethics' and all that) can really work some wonders.
