SJ, I know of the UG connection with transatlantic flying. What was the other watch developed for the purpose? Great site BTW. UG are nice watches, but getting harder to find parts for. I have a polerouter bumper with my watch guy for what seems like a year now - gotta do something about...

Apologies for the O/T subject matter, but I'd seen a few comments from folks wanting, but not being able to justify the cost of, a Navitimer. This is an English Rotary Chronospeed, and if you can tolerate a Quartz movement, you will see new ones on eBay for around GBP$60 Quartz, but...

Indeed. My wife discovered that the Uncle she never met was a pilot of a Halifax shot down at night over Antwerp. His third mission. The place and time of the explosion. No survivors. The names of the crew. Description of effects left behind. The pleading letters from home for answers...

Radium I think - not sure. It is a very low contrast dial when wearing it. A black face would have been better and glare from the domed acrylic doesn't help. Difficult to read at a glance and harder under water. The bracelet is wrong, but the correct riveted one is outside my discretionary...

Last time I landed at O'Hare I reckon they off loaded my luggage before the plane touched down. I got it, but in pieces. Early in my career I worked as a facility technician at an international airport here. There are many places where luggage conveyors pass through unattended spaces. Too...
