I don't think any regular full color 1st Cav patch had a black border back then. The only way I could see this would be in-theatre made patches, or modern repro.
To be fair, the first thing that crossed my mind was: with someone as helpful and considerate with his clients as Steve S looks to be, that'd be somewhat a pleasure to hand him back the jacket for a few adjustments. I'm not sure I've ever seen some this dedicated to his customers. Kudos to you...

By tradition, MA-1 were sage green 90% of the time. Of course, there are variations of sage green... From what you say, my best bet would be to go with these, as they are kind of a "desaturated" sage green:

I'll simply second that. Same problem here, being tall and somewhat slender. Either it's balooning, either it's too short. Only light I can see in the B-15 territory is the Pike Brothers B-15A, if the size chart is correct.
Saw Steve's pictures this morning on FB, and gosh, it looks really amazing! I especially love the grain of the leather, and the work on the collar.

Subdued divisional insignia were authorized in theatre as of 1966, but were not that common until 1967. But as for 1st Cav and other "proud" line units like 101st AB, they still sometimes tended to use the full color patches.
