    Homemodded M1902 Campaign Hat

Hi The brim dimensions are fine, but I don't remember what the crown height is. If the open crown is at or above 5.75 inches, then I'm not sure the term conversion applies. Re-crease maybe, but not convert. Lotsa folds in a Campaign hat takin' up a lot of felt. :D Later Y'all

    Boat Shoes

Hi I've owned a pair of the Sebagoes for about 10 years and they're pretty good. Most deck shoes aren't rec-raftable now days. I did get a new sole put on an old pair of deck shoes, but it was lug soles, not deck shoe bottoms. My shoe repairman said that no one sells deck shoe soles anymore...

why doesnt stetson or any hat company just go back to their roots?

Hi I don't think that most American hat buyers would have a clue what to do with an open crowned hat. I think that they'd just assume it was a Billy Jack style and not buy it. The whole concept of creasing your own hat is completely unheard of in current American society. It's also $, but in...

Now Forming! the Campaign Hat Corps

Right, my reason for posting was that after a while they quit wearing issued hats because they fell apart. I'll see if I can find what year that was. Later

Decisions, decisions? Do you match your hat to anything?

Hi I tend to wear the gray and black hats with black, blue or gray. I have a few more hats and clothing in the earth tone range, but I don't currently have a brown leather jacket to wear with the Stetson Temple. Later

Now Forming! the Campaign Hat Corps

Hi I just finished reading a biography of Al Sieber, one of the scouts that helped settle Arizona. In it, they mention that the scouts and cavalry got rid of their issue hats when they deteriorated past usefulness and bought gray ones from the Indian Agent or Sutler. In Arizona, apparently...

BUCKAROO BONANZA! - The Hats that Major Mike Moore Makes

Hi Bob I was looking forward to meeting you in March, but since you're in Central Illinois, I'll PM you next time I head back to Raymond for the weekend. Um, save me one of those liners for my John Wayne hat... Love it. Bob, that hat's a really good size for you and looks great. I like the...

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

Hi Unfortunately, that's not MUCH of a compliment for a movie... [huh] I wasn't MAD I watched the first one, but I wasn't proud of it either. later

Highest price paid, lowest price paid for your fedora.

Hi My highest priced hat was the Jaxonbilt Campaign Hat for $370.00. The least expensive was the Olive colored Milan for $35.00 from Hatman Jack on an end of season sale. No Work of Art (yet) or Optimo (not likely) to put my rates up. Later

"Thirty Things that Need to Stage a Comeback"

Hi I wear a lot of clothes from Cabelas, read a lot of books from Amazon, and buy a lot of stuff for my hobby over the net. UPS has been the best for YEARS until I moved into THIS apartment. They won't leave anything, they won't let me order it to be held at the UPS center, and sometimes I...

    tonyb.....hatter and a gentleman

Hi Teach, nice hat. I like the color combination pretty well, it looks good outside. I can't decide whether or not I'll order that triple or the regular one next time. Looks good though. later

Made in America. Stayed in America.

Hi Not worrying about quality or nationalism, but how close are we to the point where (for illustration) the Dutch wear Dutch made underwear because it's prohibitively expensive to ship it from China? At some tipping point, we'll all probably have to get back to manufacturing the basics at...

Damn them beer companies. Here in OKC we now have 30 packs (YeAHHHH), and 20 packs (BOOOO). There aren't as many actual cases anymore. sighhhh. Tony, I don't know ANY dirty Canadian jokes, blond jokes of course, but no Dirty Canadian jokes. You could send them to my email though...

    Homemodded M1902 Campaign Hat

Hi Both Mike Moore and Tony B (Tumwater) made me an old style Campaign hat. I didn't go for vents though. The ribbon on both is per Dean's original thread. The one from Mike Moore is in Bone and has become sort of a summer dress hat. The one Tony made is either Sahara or Sand (he didn't...

    Post New Hats Here!

Hi APB Looks great. I like the Pencil roll on yours. I usually wear a flatter brim. I note that you're from Shreveport. I used to go their regularly about 5-10 years ago. I couple of retired Chiefs used to take me to all of the hole in the wall places to eat. I remember eating a roast...

    Art and the D.A.

Hi Tony Oddly enough, the book Freakonomic's third chapter is entitled "Why do drug dealers still live with their Moms?". First level dealers actually make less (according to the author) than the burger flipper, but like aspiring actors the dealers want to "move up" to where the money is...

    Your Reading Room

Hi I'm amazed, happy, but amazed that no one has posted a picture of their bathroom (reading room). I too, use electronic media more at home now. I quit taking the newspaper a few years ago because it was silly to read 3 day old internet news again. I own and use a Kindle, but I noticed...

Interesting information about Military Headgear 1855-1902, especially Campaign Hats!

Hi There is a paragraph in Al Sieber's biography stating that the Indian war soldiers got rid of their deteriorated black wool hats and purchased Gray fur felt hats from the sutlers. If I can find the whole quote, I'll type it in here. Later
