Thanks Richard. The felt is very nice and in perfect shape too. Mid 50's would be my guess too based on the labels but just looking at the outside of it the shorter brim seems more 60's.
Welcome Dallashat. That is a beautiful Open Road. I'm envious of your hat and your hat size! If you are going to start collecting hats you should be able to find a lot of beautiful hats in size 7. The larger sizes are much harder to come by.
Heather Green Stetson
Here is a recent purchase from Ebay that was advertised as 100% wool. The sweatband and liner were missing too. As a result I was able to pick it up for a very cheap price. The color is a dark heather green but the flash has washed out the color. The close up of the bow or...
Thanks Josh! After reading your thread I'm assuming that stamp is the union stamp of the "Brotherhood of Leather Cutters". Is that your opinion too? It would certainly explain why it is on the sweatband of different manufacturers.
In the old documentary film about Stetson you can see one of the Stetson employees cutting sweatbands from a larger piece of leather. The film is from the early years of Stetson so maybe they outsourced the sweatbands later or (like Ole suggested) that larger piece of leather had these stamps on...
I just looked at my 1960's Stetson 100 that is newer than Alan's and it also has the LBC stamp on the sweatband. Must be a sweatband manufacturing company that was used by different hat manufacturers. Maybe "Bxxx Leather Company".
Great looking Model 12 Airweight. I've been looking for a good one for years. Every one I've come across has been in pretty rough shape. I did find a nice flat latch Model 37 Airweight not too long ago. It was made in 1961. I need to take some pictures of it for this thread.
Marathon Beaver 100
Here is a new set of photos showing the tags that were folded under the sweatband. Maybe the experts can tell who made this hat by the tags and markings. You can see in one photo there is a stamp on the back of the sweatband that looks to be "LBC". Maybe that is Lee...
I double checked my Playboys and one has a D122 block. Unfortunately the other one is missing its manufacturing label. Then there is my most recent purchase (posted a few pages back) which I think is a refurbished Playboy that has a 122 label.
Terry, I have had that happen to me too. Seems like older Resistols and Bradfords are more susceptible to the sweatband deteriorating than older Stetsons. I have had both an older Bradford and Resistol that had sweatbands that looked pristine just disintegrate after wearing them for a short...
VS Milan
Here are some pictures of my new VS Milan that Art emailed me last night. I love how it looks in the pictures and can't wait to see it in person. Thanks Art!
