Tricky. But I prefer the Aero.
For me, the fit trumps any fleece thickness/tailoring/colour preferences of the ELC. All those are nothing if the fit isn't right - and I know what you mean about the short arms on the ELC. No, nobody does the Frankenstein walk to the pub, but it's there, isn't it...
It's a perfect fit! Bulls-eye.
What a score for $102! I love the collar, too.
Oh, and welcome to the Lounge!!! :)
And as for the white spots, if they won't come off, they could be painted out - very carefully - with acrylic paint. Easy. And that's the only tiny flaw with your jacket as it's a...
Some good thoughts above ...
And I was also thinking that I'd add that the reason my brother isn't interested in an upgrade is because he values the warmth of his ALC Irvin over any shortcomings in accuracy as he spends a lot of time in his workshop and garage (he's in Britain, so it's cool and...
I'd agree with BN above, except my experience was with Aviation Leathercraft and I had one of their Irvins before I upgraded to ELC, so for what it's worth, my advice is limited to that company only.
I've just had a look at the Aviation Leathercraft site and their B-3 has 1" wool - so it's a...
I hear you! What a change from last Friday, eh? I rode home from work and it was 18C! The next morning I was raking leaves again in the back yard in a t-shirt and sweater and it was 15C and I was getting a sweat on! Added another 2 bags of leaves to the 22 already waiting for collection on...
So the Farmers Almanac called it first, and now The Weather Channel is warning of a traditional Winter for us up here.
I'd say it's as good an excuse as any to get a decent vintage N-3B or ANJ-4/B-3 if funds allow.
Hesitating still? Ponder upon the quote "a notch or two above brutal" - for the...
Hi Cocker,
I've owned a pair of Aero A-10 gloves - and I have a pair by ELC and 2 pairs by Buzz Ricksons.
You may detect the use of the past tense there with the Aero gloves.
My very first pair were by ELC and they're my favourite - but then, they're old (10 years or so) and I've worn the lining...
Hi Tommy,
And yes I can as I have the sweater here at work with me today as, at the end of the work day, it's getting a wash and condition to soften down the wool and I leave it here to dry on towels and it'll be dry by Monday as the air in the hospital is so dry (A/C always on)!
21.5".
Stunning, Xopher. Simply beautiful. Good on you.
And yes, the guys who all wore the gear we admire so much were flying and worrying about meeting just 5 horrible fates each time they took off: being shot into pieces, being burnt to death, drowning to death, falling to death - with being taken...
Ah, something or someone's always to blame, I say, BN.
Gary sent me a free copy of his Golden Book way back when I was wanting to replace and upgrade my old Aviation Leathercraft A2 after 18 years of service. 5000 quid later with ELC, here I sit ....!
And I saw Pearl Harbor and ELC had just made...
Oh, it will be. It's unseasonably mild right now up here - most unusual. But the temps seem set to crash on Sunday and they're talking about snow flurries for early next week. Yayyy!
Thanks Tommy! And yes, I'm a 40R in a suit - and my Buzz Ricksons L2-A is a 40 as is my ELC Irvin.
But my ELC RW B-3 and RW B-6 are both 42, as is my ELC Luftwaffe.
And my Aero ANJ-3 is labelled as a 44.
But I think the suit is the best rule-of-thumb for actual standard size.
And I know what...
Thanks Gav!
And I forgot to mention that I also got this at the new post-Brexit exchange rate, so the British Pound/Canadian dollar was in much my favour this time too! :)
So a few weeks ago, I was back in England for one week to visit family – and, as well as using it an opportunity to get my ELC RW B-6 repaired and having it sent to my parents to collect it from there, I also took a chance and ordered one of their USN wool sweaters.
Disposable income is rather...
It sounds as though you've tried it on and if it's not hanging off you, then the labelling sounds out, but really, if it fits, that's all that matters.
It has two hand-warmer pockets - not the usual one pouch, so it's a mall-version of B-3. I couldn't date it or say who makes it (Cockpit?) but...
