Indeed they are. Here are a few.
It is a fact that the majority of studies have shown passive smoking to be harmful. That the majority of scientists and doctors believe this to be the case. That no matter how solid the consensus in any area of enquiry there will always be some dissenters...
The quality was what you would expect for a 1930s cap made for the mass market - excellent, though not exceptional.
Falcon is probably the commonest brand I have seen in pre-war caps, though we are talking a small statistical sample here! I’ve never seen a Falcon trilby, and I think of them...
well it makes a nice change from giving stuff away...which is what I seem to be doing most of the time on ebay!
I expected it to make about £30-50, but I knew it could make around £100 (double the figures for rough dollar equivalent) so I wasn't surprised, just pleased!
As we've...
I actually used to deal a lot in WW2 jackets, and must have had hundreds through my hands. I stopped buying US Navy shearlings in the end because so many of them were rotting and simply fell apart.
AAF shearlings were better, but often showed the same problem of irreversible rot.
Irvins...
Edward, I ruined myself financially years ago....NOW I'M GOING TO DRAG YOU DOWN AS WELL!! (maniacal laughter)
best thing is to stay away from the Lounge, and don't even think of going near the Aero or ELC websites!
But as you will of course ignore this advice......
regarding sheepskin...
hey Paddy, isn't than an M445? The ancestor of the AN-J-4.
Push comes to shove and "BoB" pattern Irvin and the AN-J-4 are probably my all time favourite leather jackets.
I've always fancied the B2 since I first saw the one in Sweeting, but the big collar puts me off.
Edward, the B-3 is...
I vote for M.J. Klonigger.
The name is normally spelt with one G, but whatever the surname there'll always be someone somewhere who spells it differently.
here's a couple of links re Archibald Ramsay, one of the most notorious of the pro-Nazi appeasers. If you are interested in the fate of his "Red Book" it turned up in the safe of his solicitor in 1989 and was found to contain the names of several senior Tories and peers of the realm...no...
actually, the prima facie case against them is pretty strong - as I said, probably not strong enough to convict, but definitely strong enough to have warranted a serious criminal investigation. Instead they were shunted out of the way to the not-unpleasant backwater of the Bahamas.
The most...
Wodehouse was never a Nazi sympathizer - on the contrary, in as much as he had political views they were vaguely left-wing and definitely anti-fascist. But he was really a political naif. His crime was to foolishly make some broadcasts over German radio when he was interned during the war. The...
It seems the Nazis planned to install him as King, but whether it could be proved Edward himself was aware and willing is another issue of course. Pretty similar with the passing secrets stuff: this was alleged at the time without much supporting evidence, but an internal FBI memo making this...
That's a nice cap Paddy. I have a similar 1930s one but cloth peak. It's getting a bit long in the tooth and I'm on the look out for a replacement, but most of the modern ones I come across are very poor quality and not cut right - sort of the nautical-hat equivalent of a Cooper A2 (or worse)...
It's hard to get at the full truth about Edward's fascist sympathies. When you get that close to the heart of the British establishment people stop talking and documents go missing. But Edward was undoubtedly a sympathizer and fellow traveller, and he may well have been more - I believe FBI...
Mosley...Moseley....Mosely...Mozlee...
ha ha, it was MY spelling I was commenting on. I think i got it right first post, and then I morphed it into Mosely!
But not alone! A quick scan of the thread and I think we all got it wrong except Enikslee
nit picking again...
I should of course have written "He was one of only two Britons executed for treason after the war" - several people were tried and convicted and given lesser sentences, mostly for their activities with Amery's "British Free Corps".
And it's spelt MOSLEY, whoops
Yes, the Nazis worst atrocities were to occur during the war. However, their crimes to date were widely known of in 1938. Everyone knew that the left-wing parties and the trades unions had been suppressed and their leaders and cadres interned in concentration camps, that democracy and the...
That's essentially correct. However, John Amery was convicted on several counts of treason, the most important being his organization of a British volunteer corps to fight alongside the Waffen SS and helping organize Mussolini's Salo Republic. He was one of only two Britons convicted of treason...
Baron, the measurements seem pretty big for a labelled 36. I don't have my notes to hand but I think it measures about the same as my labelled 40 now it has shrunk to fit 38. Your jacket should shrink to fit a size 34 so I'd expect the chest to be about 18" or 19" across. Did you cold wash it...
(memo to self) I MUST GET MY CAMERA OUT
fantastic thread. This is what makes the Lounge worthwhile.
Edward, I'm so used to high waisted trousers that on the odd ocassion I've tried on modern pants they feel like they're falling down. Jolly uncomfortable.
High-waisted isn't really high...
