In my opinion, if you need to open up the back to cut it down across the shoulder blade area, it's 99% never going to sit right. It sounds like an exceptional suit. I would put it away for when you gain a few more pounds or sell it to someone who it will fit.
Alexandre.... EXCELLENT WORK!!! Please search back through this thread and check out some of the classic monster film portraits I have on me. They are done by Shane Morton of Atlanta, GA and Karel Mato of Philadelphia, PA./Albuquerque, N.M.
Do you travel ever to NYC?
Oooh, that's a very good point! To have a time machine and still be find yourself having to possibly contend with an item a stranger has lived in, surely begs the question if the initial plan should perhaps be sent back to the drawing board! lol
Did you just jinx the country, if not the world with that? :p
But seriously folks, I imagine it depends on the area. In NYC an average commuter would not look out of place at all in a single breasted vintage overcoat. Double breasted, back belted/pleated, hip-area knife pleats, etc...
I really never know if colors clash or look good together. :eusa_doh: So thank you Will! :D It was a beautiful day so I also wandered around in circles through Central Park.
And thank you too Gene! I'm sure the poor lighting adds to it, but I find it hard to capture how a suit is cut, and...
Were those his shoe collection you posted a few weeks back in the show us your shoes thread of incredible 30's shoes as far as the eye can see?
Most importantly: Why isn't he on here?
haha um, thanks! We met briefly on his Weird West Adams bus tour! We got on like bruddas! But I didn't know about the jawdropping extent of his collection until I saw your posting it here! :eusa_doh: Next time I see him, even if it's years from now, I expect to just froth at the mouth about...
But, but, but Marty! In the future you've just created, no one in the 60's has ever touched a single garment! They are innocent lambs! What ever you do... don't kiss your mother! lol
Personally, I would take a pit stop back to the mid/late 40's, just after we won WW2 and all the GI's are...
I'll be a pharoah soon....
If you truly had a time machine, you could go further back in time than the 60's. So you could collect all the back belted suits, jaw dropping shoes, etc and go anywhere in time with the coolest stuff ever having extremely exciting adventures! Don't focus on the...
Shucks :o From you, I'm honored! Thank you! I happen to think your images are quite striking!
"Like my father before me..." I can get by doing the William Powell thing :p
On my way to a Man Ray lecture...
1926 dated Saville Row suit
- That strange shine in the crotch region can't be seen in person. I guess it's something reacting to the flash...?
- But check out the fit! What armholes..!!!
Modern Brooks Brothers shirt
1933 Chicago World's Fair pocket square...
I've actually toyed with the idea of starting a thread collecting images of golden era clothes incorporated into the style of the 60's Haight Ashbury and later the Punk movements. It could be heartbreaking!
Well, it's not to say the seller is the person that is responsible. It could have occurred sometime between the 1960's and today. In which time it could have passed through multiple hands.
I believe this is a bold look suit - high end custom made job dated 1949 and has a completely different cut than any of my earlier constructed suits. It's indeed a beauty but the way it lays takes some getting used to when you're used to an earlier style.
I look forward to see what you...
