Well, other obsession of boaters have brought me other obsession. Now it is British school woollen caps.
I acquired one quite cheaply off a classified website and it has that musty attic smell. I have tried to wash it in mild dish detergent or foam soap in lukewarm water multiple times but the...
Looks like a Bedfordshire stencil boater. Probably made by Olney, that sold to Brent for retailing. Made with flower edged straw plait. Looking at the perfect lining of straw probably an early Olney or a Dunn & Co.
Few days ago, I saw a Cavanagh Japanese boater with the same marks on the sweatband. I've seen quite a few with the same mark, with master mode, showerproof. It is definitely a Japanese. I also check Japanese auction sites for boaters and most of them have the mark above.
Picked up the 13.55 dollar deal of the year. A vintage St Andrews College straw boater made by the 'The York Hat' company. A definite beauty!

I plan to wear it to school. Anyway I...

Today by FedEx, arrived my Crofut & Knapp Boater. A rather rare boater only two I've ever seen offered for sale.
It came with a TRUSIZE sweatband, where you could undo a mini green clip and pull the two ends of a thick-ish string to adjust the sweatband to be bigger or smaller. A sort of...
I was on trademe, a New Zealand Classifieds/Auction site and to my delight found my school's vintage boater for sale starting at 10 dollars, will bid it. Not letting this one go. Apparently it was made by 'The York Hat' in England. Hmmm, I thought it would be a New Zealand one but nevermind. :-)...
