How do I sew a leather sweatband into a straw hat? I do not own a 'speciality' machine for the sewing job. How can I sew a leather hatband in by hand? (What kind of stitching pattern do I use?)

Dear Loungers, I recently acquired a Bon Ton Ivy fitted speckled boater and I must say it is the most comfortable sweatband I have ever worn on my head! I have another boater which needs a sweatband replacement. Does anyone know where I can get a Bon Ton Ivy style elastic adjustable sweatband...

Where can I get inner boater hat linings? I can source felt hat linings but not the boater hat linings with the mesh around it. Example of boater lining: http://gallery.nen.gov.uk/asset677280_14639-e2bn.html

Question: How would you disinfect a straw boater's lining? Picked up an old school boater from the 1910-1920 era. It looks like if it spent its last century in the attic. How would I successfully disinfect the hat so that I may wear it? How would I go about cleaning the dust & grim on the exterior?

    Hat making tools

I was thinking of using Rustic/Tyrolean Plait to make straw boaters. What is a tipper, may I ask?

    Hat making tools

I recently purchased a Grossmann Dresdenia machine for straw braid sewing. I need to buy some equipment for the blocking process. What would I need to block a straw hat? I do not want to spend too much money on something that is not essential. Any homemade alternatives to this machine seen...

I go to a school wear we wear straw boaters everyday. The Olney ones wear done very well if not handled well. It is a custom to varnish your boater with yacht varnish at my school although that is not a 'must' but it is fairly recommended. I recommend you get hold of a Stetson Boater or the...

Straws on the outside of my boater are faded compared to the hidden ones behind the sweatband which look brand new. How would you get the straws to look brand new?

    Traditional Peaked Caps

New Zealand School Cap - (Unknown school) https://www.flickr.com/photos/151433546@N06/35025609562/in/album-72157681897579973/ The first cap that sparked my interest in collecting these beauties! Traditional Peaked Caps

I hope to create this thread for a 'new' side of collecting hats. Traditional peaked caps are my new interest of hat collecting. It is quite cheaper than other hats and rises many nostalgic and truly fond memories of the 'schooldays' of many British and common-wealth country citizens. Mostly...

    Boater faction!

Now, I live in London and soon, Greater London. So I spotted this little charm on British Ebay. 20 quid for a King's College, Canterbury school boater. It was a chance to reclaim a lost treasure in the past. On reverb, several years ago, I saw the exact same King's College boater and missed it...

I am thinking something like late 1940s~1960s. The boater you have should be from around the late 50s or the early 60s.
