There's also Dakota Outerwear (thread + LINK, click on "outerwear" and go to page 5) and Taylors Leatherwear (LINK). Both are apparently military grade, solid, and relatively inexpensive. But if you can get Cockpit for $75 then I guess it's a no brainer. G&B and Schott will be a lot more.
They wore them all the time (F-86 in Korea? nylon everywhere) and they must have melted now and then, which is why the USAF switched to aromatic polyamide jackets in the mid-70s.
So this time you had to actually pay for a vintage jacket instead of getting it almost for free??? ha ha, well done, a piece of history has gone to someone who will treasure it and keep it well. A win against the snipers and hipsters.
I just got a Weintraub MA-1 in green, or rather light green. Well made, but really lightweight, so the insulation in this must be poly. The jacket is short and wide in the classic proportions, but to be honest it has no advantages over an older USA made Alpha. Condition is an issue. I picked it...

I have never minded "foreign" made stuff, since some of it can be as well made (or better) than local stuff. I understand why Taylors might make a change to keep pricing competitive, esp in a world in which police forces don't buy leather jackets except for motorcycle cops. Now it's all...
I have been considering one of the CPD jackets and I spoke to one of the product people at Taylors Leatherwear. He said their jackets are now made in Pakistan, none are made in the USA. That goes against some of the info in their PDF catalogue which suggests two lines of clothing, one still made...
Did you read this thread in its entirety? I think Atticus Finch mentions the tags and how to interpret the date. There should be a large white tag underneath the woven orange Cooper brand tag. There should be two groups of letters and numbers separated by hyphens. Let us know what those read and...
I don't believe it's mentioned in the spec document, but from photos it's clear that the current A-2 jackets have handwarmer pockets behind the main patch pockets. This seems to take two forms:
(1) side seam of patch pockets is left unsewn to allow hands to enter
(2) an extra slit is added...
Below are a bunch of recent photos of USAF personnel wearing A-2 jackets in operational and non-operational settings from the USAF website. The names of these photos are made up of the image number and names of persons depicted. If you want more info you can use google to search for the image...
I recently came across a government document providing details on the current issue USAF A-2 jacket (or “Jacket, Flyer’s, A-2 Leather”). This document is designated A-A-55265 and is dated February 16 1995. You can download the PDF version of this document HERE. Click on the tiny PDF symbol next...
