    Yes, I would think the wool hats were popular because they were cheaper than nutria and fur felts....much like the Scala line of hats.....they have some nice fashionable hats, most all wool and very reasonably priced. They have quite the variety....we have a mens store near here that carries...

    Hard to say.....I would think if it was George Montgomery they would say so in the ad like Stetson does. The model also looks a lot like Dana Andrews.....who himself looked a lot like George Montgomery too....the two of them look a lot alike. M

Looking at the styles there are at least two that look like open roads, a couple boss of the plains, more bowler shapes than "you can shake a stick at" as they say, many soft fedora types, wide ribbon, thin ribbon......and as you say, wool, fur...

    7 1/4 Mallory Ten, Grey Hommie, Early 50's?

    An inquiry as to the measurement made me get out the tape. Hat circumference is just under 23 (that is so hard to do..). Cross measurement is 6 1/2 by 8. So this seems a true 7 1/4 as tagged. It is really in fantastic shape, very, very clean, with a nice supple sweat. M

    I do not think it is....I believe at the time George Montgomery was advertising for Stetson.....I might even have one of his ads in my Stetson thread... M Edit...I do have a Montgomery ad...

    1911....One of the earliest references I have found on plaid cloth hats......."The Newest Summer Hat"......."lighter weight than straw"!!!!!!! AND they can fix up your panama hat!!! M

    You bet.....now those instructions are to fluff up a long hair finish......though I have been known to use this technique on an especially soiled hat to open up the surface and remove deeper soil. Now on a "standard" finish hat that was soiled, after the softer brushing in the correct...

    Depends on the hat, but generally yes. However to initially raise the nap you brush against the direction, then finish it out brushing it in the right direction with a softer brush. M
