I will say one thing in their defense (doesn't excuse many of the weird choices so far) in that this is better than I expected from the standard Hillside photo they had up for ages.
The only thing that made this compelling was Schott. Absent Schott, I would go Aero J-106 at this price point.
Not paying Aero/Schott money for Hillside.
He means in terms of the hardware, construction, specific horsehide, etc.
Point being that a jacket of equivalently high quality is ‘closer’ to it than a cheap visual copy.
The 1928H @Madhouse27 is talking about is an exact reproduction of this. Schott also made one like that for RRL.
I wouldn’t complain about the added side pockets of the non “full” repro D-pocket though. I tend to use them a lot.
Happy to email him as well to show broader support. I’ve been meaning to write him anyway to send a thank you note about something he helped with. Can you DM me his email?
Out of curiosity, have they ever explained why?
I understand why Japanese brands do it (they want American looking sizes but they corresponding downsize to small Japanese people) but it is a bit confusing from a Western maker where people are likely to be buying leather jackets in their suit...
Schott is in a fairly unique position among companies making reproduction leather jackets, alongside Lewis Leathers, Cal-Leathers, and Langlitz, in that they were an original maker back in the day.
Thus, when it comes to reproductions, they focus on reproing their own historic models rather...
I don't think they're lying about that, but I've figured from the beginning that this is a test run and if it goes well, they'll make a permanent version. I expect it will have some differences, like maybe only the 'anniversary edition' will have the mouton collar, or the subsequent versions...
They changed it from “limited edition” to “special anniversary edition”.
I think they were using this run to test interest and try out the new supplier.
Personally I wouldn’t consider the leathers offered by BK, which are very high quality, to be suitable for motorcycle usage. They’re designed to look vintage more than anything.
You would be far better served by getting a Vanson or Schott which are designed and cut to specifically address the...
Stitching is nice. Not Perfecto level but nice (though it is at the same price point).
The Legendary snaps don’t look very nice. I prefer plain in general but at least Schott’s branded button looks like a bullet which gives some visual interest.
The fact that it's poorly labeled by the company is irrelevant. 44-sized people will see this and pass on the jacket because it's multiple sizes too small. If you put 38 or 40 in the title, then people who might actually fit into it will see it.
