Leave Her To Heaven, a late-forties Technicolor melodrama with Gene Tierney, Cornel Wilde, Jeanne Crain, Vincent Price, etc. that I DVR'd from TCM. I didn't believe a second of it, but the cast and costumes/sets were sure good looking.
Deadpool. While some of its fourth-wall-breaking and superhero-cliche-kidding joking was amusing, I didn't like it.
Princess Kaiulani. Interesting historical drama about Hawaii's loss of nationhood and annexation as a US territory.
1966 was the year that nearly everything on TV went to color - shows like Bewitched, Lost In Space, and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. that had been in b/w in their initial seasons in 1965 switched over. And yeah, many shows of the period tended towards garish, too-bright colors to showcase the era's...
The Spy Who Loved Me is the most entertaining of Moore's Bond films, and Bach's stronger-than-usual female lead is part of the reason. But For Your Eyes Only gets points for deliberately scaling down and trying to do a smaller film in the tradition of From Russia With Love instead of the usual...
Times article on Hayley Atwell. Yeah, it's primarily a puff piece about Conviction, but there's some info about Atwell herself I hadn't seen elsewhere:

Oh, I don't doubt that the character's behavior on the show is way exaggerated. But there are an awful lot of folks out there with all kinds of self-defeating dysfunctions. We're living a nutty world full of confusion and seriously mixed messages, and it's hard to find a "normal" balance...
Because that's how so many people ARE. I saw reviews about this show, it looks interesting. But between the onslaught of shows from broadcast/cable and Netflix, I don't have time to watch Amazon series!
I suspect that "she" had less to do with the retooling of the second season than directives that came down from ABC/Disney/Marvel. But yeah, most of the second season changes didn't improve the series. (In particular, the utterly-wrong-for-the-period racial stuff is classic ABC/Disney PC...
I've had two G&B goatskin jackets for a long time - a black civil A-2 (vintage 2001) and historical M-422A (2005) - and they have held up to annual wear beautifully. Sure, they don't fit me quite as well as my made-to-measure Good Wear Dubow or Wested Raiders, but they are great jackets...
Westworld starts on HBO THIS Sunday. And it is NOT remotely aimed at kids, advance reviews say it has the level of (gratuitous) sex and violence HBO is known for. They are hoping for another Game of Thrones.
Also, the story largely seems to be about the robots becoming aware of their "real"...
I heard from Mike that my thirties fedora, which we spec'd over the summer, is "going on the block this week", so I should have something to show here relatively soon...
It's an okay flick, but even seeing it in the movies when it was new, there was a sense that its reteaming of Paul Newman and Robert Redford didn't really recapture the Butch Cassidy magic. It was basically an okay caper picture stocked with enjoyable character actors, shot in a rather...
H.B. Warner was a favorite of Capra's. He'd already cast him in Lost Horizon, You Can't Take It With You, and Mr. Smith Goes To Washington before the war.
(I didn't mention him earlier because the silent King of Kings is barely remembered these days - by anyone but hardcore film history types...
I think Max von Sydow did a pretty good job a few years later in The Greatest Story Ever Told. (Of course, Jesus likely wasn't a big Nordic guy, but that's Hollywood glamourizing things for you.)
If nobody answers, just buy a new one. Wested jackets are very reasonable compared to most makers (even their custom-sized ones):

I've had one of their lambskin Raiders jackets for 12 or 13 years, and it's held up beautifully to annual wear. And...
On flight jackets like the A-2 and G-1, they are indeed useful: they make moving your arms easier, because there's no resistance from air trapped inside the jacket. The air flows in and out as needed whenever you change position.
