Oh, nice Open Road. I have one which is slightly older, but with a lot of the same markings. A quintessential Stetson, for sure. The 3x felt is actually quite nice. I was also watching that St. Regis, I wanted to take the ribbon off it.....but that would've been heresy!
David: That eggplant felt is sublime!
Lauro: I have a very similar Stetson stingy actually. Looking good!
Flere: Welcome aboard to the lounge! You're off to a good start in that Borso.
Randall: a very noir-ish pic, but I like the look!
Robert: Nice playboy! I have one that needs a...
A Playboy might suit you....I just picked one up on Ebay in 6 7/8 for $22 a week or so ago, although this one needs some TLC. The crown is not too tall and can be creased to bring down the height, and I don't find the brim to be overly wide.
I cannot say enough good things about Bob's work. His prices are excellent, his work is impeccable. If you're looking for something out of the ordinary, he hand dyes his own felt bodies (such as mine above).
Check out the Black Sheep thread...
The only thing that bugs me about the Peter Bros. hat is that whatever ribbon they're using never looks right to me. Actually, I should say, it doesn't look "screen accurate" as an Indy ribbon, it has a kind of weird purple undertone going on, whereas the true ribbon is a very, very, dark...
Aside from the more iconic models, like the Open Road, or Stratoliner, San Antonio, etc, most of the model names have been lost to history. More to the point, most eBay sellers don't know enough about hats to correctly identify them anyway.
Ebay my friend. I've gotten several good deals on eBay (most between $15-$60) for vintage lids. 6 7/8 and size 7 hats go for dirt cheap since it's a smaller head size and less common, and to boot, the stingy brims from the 60's seem to have survived en masse. A win win for you!
I wish! Would've been helpful. The gub'mint gives you language training if they deploy you somewhere if you need it (if I end up working for the federales at all).
Thanks Manfred! I really like the shade of brown on your Echter Mayser.
Thank you kindly, I was wondering if anyone was gonna notice the little brim flip. I also really like your wool bowler, one of the nicest woolies seen on here in a while, no doubt!
I've actually been cooped up...
Hey Dave,
Paul's Hat Works is here in the city on Geary. Their custom lids are at the higher end of the spectrum ($650+), but they also offer a variety of cleaning and reblocking services. They've flanged a few hats and changed some ribbons for me. The gals there are great.
The other place...

Thanks for the compliments on the Black Sheep Milan!
Another warm autumn day calls for another day at the park for my pup (living 5 minutes from the ocean comes in handy when it's nice outside!), with my Ecuadorian Panama Hat Co. of New York Supernatural Milan.
