It's also possible that they've recently made a change. I haven't bought an Akubra in a few years. But in the least, at one point, it was a wire reed. I guess that's the best we can say. [huh]
Well, outside of Hatco, most hatters are using felt from Winchester. This includes most custom hatters. Parker also sources from FEPSA in Portugal, whom I believe supply felt for Optimo. Different hatters may have their own blends or specifications with Winchester however. Art Fawcett is...
Nice thin ribbons David, Mr. Dean, and Javier. I almost grabbed an OR too, but opted for the Fed IV again in case of rain.
Perry: That hat is a winner!
Robert: I like the changeup on the modern Whippet. I do think the thin ribbon suits you better, and that particular ribbon is a good...
Akubras are probably the toughest production hat in existence today. I grab my Fed IV as a rain hat without hesitation. I've had it for a few years now and it's still not in need of a re-block.
The Fed IV definitely has a wire reed - as has been discussed ad nauseum at COW. I can't speak to any other Akubra models, though I have a hard time believing that they would use a different technique on only the Fed IV.
I like to wear a variety of brim and crown heights depending on my mood, or the weather, or my outfit.
Stingies for me are a more casual look, with the exception of my Optimo Dillinger.
The widest brim I have is 2 7/8". The tallest crown I have is 5 3/4 (open crown height), and that one is...
Homburgs have bound brims, not welted, and the pencil curl is much more pronounced. Moreover, the crown on a Homburg has more stiffener generally, and I don't think I've ever seen a Homburg with a backbow....which is not to say that it doesn't exist, but certainly not common. A Homburg would...
Randall and David, thanks for the kind words. The ribbon is just the standard Playboy style, it must've gotten caught in the light like that...although there's an idea if I get an ArtLite playboy clone....
Nice Homburg, Frank! They always look at home atop a fine suit.
This one still needs a reblock and reflange, but I just stretched it out and couldn't resist. I think the sweat may need be be replaced.....Late 50's or early 60's Stetson Playboy. I'm looking very orange in the streetlight...
Suddenly the thought of a lightweight black cherry Playboy clone popped into my head. We'll call it a reward to myself for finishing my masters thesis (....ok, have to finish first ;))
Scooter, that's a good looking Stetson, a well worn and well loved lid.
Did some shopping in the nihonmachi today and brought out the Resistol OR clone.
