So my next question is how on earth the 5* sizing works.
I'm currently swooning over the 1930s half belt, which is (I think?) what @ton312 just had, and I'm losing confidence poring over the sizing charts.
I'm a 39 chest and it like a trim fit. What on earth do I want?
By way of whatever, here's a photo I took just now when I got in from a no-reason-but-the-sun's-shining ride.
This is my all season armoured riding jacket, from Merlin in oxblood cow. I bought it in a 40 to give me layering room on my 39" chest measurement. I always used to think I should have...
I'm certain this will have been asked before but my search-fu is weak today.
Has anyone got photos that clearly show the real life difference in appearance between the seal brown and russet brown steer?
As I've got older my opinion has changed.
I'm more interested in being comfortable and less interested in whether my jacket looks like it fits perfectly.
And I'm much more relaxed and more confident in my self.
So as long as I'm happy, if someone doesn't think my jacket fits properly then...
Interesting. I realise the international jury is out on armour, and I've no wish to steer another thread in that direction.
I was more wondering about the construction of the jackets themselves, thread material, seam stitching, hide thickness. I look at Vanson forex, and they look like tanks...
Does anybody ride in their Thedi jacket?
I've only ever seen photos, and Thedi's treatment of the leather often makes them look "delicate" to my eyes, for want of a better word. Does that belie how robust they feel in person?
And that's no good either!
Too big, in all dimensions. So it's washed and conditioned and soon to be listed ready to make sometime else happy. I'm sadface about this I've because it's a terrific jacket that I would happily wear heavily if it didn't fit like my dad's.
So then I bought another...
I suppose Goldtop is a revived 'dead' brand. But although they cite original 70s etc designs I don't think they're pretending to be the original company.
Well that one was a total washout too, returned. So, third time lucky I'm now waiting on another to arrive. This time a British style with side buckles rather than the Perfecto waist belt.
As always, let's see...
eta: seller photo.
This is listed as Leather Monkeys, and I wish I could tell why the seller knows that it is.
To my eyes it looks exactly the same as any vintage British-style cross zip...
Yup, that was the problem. I know well enough by now that if I instantly think something's wrong with the fit then I'll never wear it.
I don't know what you mean about the circle on the sleeve, sorry! Maybe someone else's jacket?
... And now it's gone again, off to someone new that it will hopefully fit better.
In its place I've nabbed another cross zip, a vintage Waddington this time. Let's see what happens.
