crazy price for this LL Bean bag
I don't know where they're getting the 40's dating, with the tag being the only thing that I can see that would date it. I've got a '70s Bean shirt with the same tag, so I don't think that's the key.

In terms of derbies, the ads in my library suggest that wearing derbies high on the head was popular from around the turn of the century to around 1913ish. At that point, the derbies seemed to fall further down near the ears. It's discussed a little here.

Here's the third one of these I've ever had in my hands. It's a pin of a Stratoliner - not that DC-3 pin that Stetson put on their Strats, but an honest to goodness representation of a Stratoliner.
Toss the DC-3 and get the real thing.
