This makes a ton of sense. So the founder was an enthusiast, and then this crook bought the company in 2022 and immediately embarked on a strategy of cheaping out the product line and marketing through outrage.
That explains the contrast between the older and newer stuff, as well as the...
There’s a bit of ‘s*** where you eat’ going on here too. They’re literally in the same state (about an hour apart); one is a family run 100 year old company that makes its own in-house jackets; the other is a glorified catalog.
Burning bridges was a stupid move…
Legendary was, until a couple of weeks ago, one of Schott's authorized dealers for selling the Schott product line.
In addition to this, Schott made a repro of the Buco J-24 D-Pocket as a private label item for Legendary. (I believe they made a Trojan repro too, but I don't quite recall.) Given...
I think it might be a case of a mistaken tag (even the lightweight versions were a 20% wool blend). I've run into those even at places like Turnbull & Asser.
They're a Japanese brand that specializes in repros of military clothing, especially jackets. Their original claim to fame was making...
Fully cotton lined? Usually the cotton batting on them (my own included) is a wool/cotton blend.
Buzz Rickson's makes several like that, of excellent quality.
Bear in mind that the B-10 (then B-15) was introduced because pilots found the goat/horse/cow pilot jackets they had before utterly useless in anything other than hot weather.
Those shells can be equally protective but the determining factor would be having a warm liner like quilting, wool, etc.
The tag with the SKU is left on; they take the tag from the factory sale itself that has the price; they do this even for the cheap items.
The stuff on the racks is a combination of overstock, samples, and defects (which are on separate racks).
The stuff you ask for is from their full price...
Fun trip as usual. Fewer leather jackets than last year, especially cross zips and cafe racers, however there were some really cool jackets of other kinds. (Lots of outdoor oriented leather jackets.)
Also one of the Schott employees was wearing a stunning 60s Cal.
I went at about 8 but there was tons of great stuff until the end—the early rush often goes right to things like tees, not TFL stuff.
I will keep an eye out!
If anyone has any requests, please let me know size, requests and budget. Also, whether you’re okay with a minor blemish (in which case sometimes the deals are bigger). I’ll check in the morning and write up requests to take with me to the factory.
I wanted to post this days ago but with the...
The whole point is to clear out what's in the factory at minimal cost. Having been there, it would not be viable at all to have an online option. Many of these things don't even have retail SKUs let alone photos. And then there's the transaction and time cost of online, plus shipping. Ends up...
