At least in some cases (it happened to Carlos) Lewis will make you your own pattern; maybe it's when your measurements are out of the ordinary enough that MTM would not suffice.
I keep looking at this jacket; definitely the coolest 'find' I've seen here in a while.
You should get it relined by someone reliable like Bedo, Dena, or Zoltan in Berkeley and wear the hell out of it. The leather and zippers look to be in great shape.
I love these 70s jackets. Great find! @ton312 might know who the original maker is.
Maybe East-West Musical Instruments or Oshwahkon? One of those hippie/rockstar makers.
Serval zippers were from New York. I have them on an early 1960s Schott jacket.
I think the safest bet in this direction would be to get one of the original model-patterned G-1 types (like the one I mentioned, H&L Block) and ask for a removable collar. No other changes just because I think any additional variable increases the chance of something going wrong.
Could add...
Worth trying both for sure. Shame you didn’t post when I was at the factory sale. Hooked a friend up with a great civilian G-1 (looked identical to the issued model except for hidden handwarmers and a removable mouton collar).
Generally I’d say the Schotts that start with a 1 are true to size...
I bought this in Chromexcel for my father but it’s the wrong size so I’ll probably list it on the Lounge soon.
I think Marc owns one of these too in a third leather still.
I’ve just had a look. Tons of Schott 184SM jackets, including absolutely pristine ones, on eBay right now for Five Star prices, even at sizes like 40 and 42.
It’s arguably the best all-rounder travel jacket on the market. Take a look for yourself. I don’t know your size so I don’t know which to...
The moment you introduce changes, the cat is out of the bag as far as visual proportions (if you’re very lucky) pattern (most likely), even if they seem like small changes to you.
Just my 2¢
At this price point (excluding the secondary market) you should consider a (non-Hero) Wested Last...
No to the Bronco, that one is not based on an original. (This is important not because of 'historical accuracy' but because that way it has a good pattern, rather than an in-house Five Star pattern.)
Are you sure you want an A-2 rather than a Navy jacket? The latter have superior patterns in...
I have one of these that I got in even newer condition at a lower price, however the confidence of buying from Chapman is hard to beat. The guy isn't gonna use a misleading photo and sell you a dud.
His writeup was worth reading. I assumed it was cowhide because it's a 60s jacket, but I didn't...
Definitely. I love kakishibu. I believe it also (like most of these old fashioned dyes) has some kind of positive quality like being antimicrobial (I don't recall what it is, but for practical reasons such things were chosen as dyes in the past.) Aizome indigo keeps away mosquitoes for example...
