There are elements of his points I might have had sympathy for (like people being happy with a product then deciding quite a while later that it was faulty) if his own marketing wasn’t based on things like posting pictures of Aero jackets with comments about poor construction and stitch count...
They’re called the YKK Old American line, some of which are branded with the vintage zipper brand Universal. Aero offers them as a zipper option now.
EDIT: Found the webpage: https://www.ykkfastening.com/products/search/detail.html?pdid1=Universal(R)
I think part of the too-long look is part-and-parcel with these beltless versions of motorcycle jackets that were designed to have belts. They end up just having too much negative space and look super long to me, even if it turns out they're not, measurement wise. Removable-belt jackets also...
I get your feeling however I much prefer a jacket like this that is envisioned without the belt/epaulettes in the first place than the disgusting workwear trend of cutting them off.
This fits you far better than the vast majority of J-100 fits I see online!
It's probably because you actually tried them on in store and got the size that fits, whereas people who order online take it as an ego hit to have to size up in number from their western size, and come out looking like...
No, the Fine Creek fans want an epaulette and belts to be there in the first place, and then cut off, lol.
An actual jacket designed without them is not for them.
I do think this jacket is a bit confused, though. Some of these minimalist/modern features, but the zipper setup of the 60s...
Yeah I was a bit of a dissenter when the thread started, arguing it fit decently (especially when you bear in mind that it's brand new in that photo–hasn't been broken in or run through the rain yet; I'm sure if it did, it would fit more like the vintage Cal Leathers he posted.)
Actually after a change in the scheme effective 2016, it would fall under the threshold for tax upon entry to the US!
The UK has probably the worst system for this, charging the recipient VAT on both the item and the postage cost, which is quite idiotic. (Found this out the hard way when I...
The zipper. The stiffness that was making the jacket sit awkwardly is gone, but the end of the zipper will occasionally pop open and unravel up to wear the slider is. Not an issue I’ve had on these #5 Talon repros before so I think it’s a one off thing. Still an 8 would be a plus!
Did you supply that zip to him or did he have it already? My zip has been giving me issues and he's encouraged me to send it back to have the zip replaced. I was thinking I might try to source the replacement but if he has a bigger one that would be perfect.
Scrolled down to comment exactly this. I had the same reaction watching a low budget 70s comedy about greasers and seeing Stallone's jacket. I turned into the DiCaprio OUATIH meme, pointing at the screen and looking to the wall beside me.
If I recall correctly @dudewuttheheck had one of the jackets with the embossed grain and moved it on because, even though historically accurate, it really sucked the life out of the leather and kept it looking the same.
I was arguing with a guy recently who was trying to explain to me how much cooler you become when you cut stuff off of your leather jacket lol.
Stupidest trend in workwear.
