I find it slightly shocking that there's not a whole lot of 1920s love in here :(
At least there's quite a bit of 1930s love, which I prefer over the 20s by a millimeter.
Barb blows BOTH Kate and Bette out the water, in my opinion. To be perfectly honest, I don't care for Kate and I have to be in the mood for Bette. But Barb -- OUTSTANDING WOMAN!
Fabulous article.
It's funny that they were still scared women might actually make something of themselves besides wives. Must've been an older gent from the Victorian days who wrote that article ;)
I KNOW!! I only came across one bio on amazon.com and it had such bad reviews I didn't even consider it. I've been relying on bits from other books and other fans for my Carole info!
I've done every look there could have been. My hair has been every colour of the rainbow -- the most drastic was black. I ended up getting it stripped and dyed back because it was *TOO* drastic, even for me!
I've been a crusty punk, a girlie punk who worshipped Mr. T Experience, a...
I remember watching Barbara Stanwyck movies late at night when I was a child. Sometimes I'd watch them with my dad and he'd go on about how much she looks like my mom :)
I LOVE Clara Bow!
She was my very first silent film obsession, though not the first silent star I ever liked! That goes to Louise Brooks and Lois Weber.
lol lol lol
Well, I really don't like her much in My Man Godfrey (1936). I think she's a bit annoying. The other films I manged to see with her in them - The Gay Bride (1934) and Fools For Scandal (1938) - were so bad I just gave up on trying to like her. Also, I read somwhere that when she...
My mother told me that when she was in high school in the late 1960s and early 1970s all the girls still had to wear skirts -- no trousers allowed. And this was public school.
Carole Lombard.
Tell me what you think of her. What do you know about her?
After years of disliking her (long story!), I've finally come to my senses and now I'm a bit obsessed :o
Any thoughts, photos, or information would be greatly appreciated. :)
I drink my Wal-Mart brand coffee -- 3 big scoops, 6 cups of water.
Then I fill up a large mug half way, fill a quarter with skim milk, the remaining quarter with cocoanut flavoured "CoffeeMate." Mmmmm.....
I rarely use eBay. I don't like it too much. I only go on there once or twice a year and buy myself some old movie magazines. Other than that, I completely forget about it.
My tool for learning the majour differences between 20s and 30s styles are the movies. Movies, movies, movies! I learned so much from watching so many over the past 10 years.
But still, I'll wear a 30s dress, do a Marcel wave, have on historically accurate makeup and I still get either...
The last time I was on Dr. Macro there were only a few galleries of more popular actresses and very few film clips....
...it's grown ENORMOUSLY since I last visited! WOW!! Thanks for reminding me about that place!
