I picked up a pair of these Swiss Army wool trousers today at a surplus store Up North along with a Swiss waterproof rucksack (exactly like my old salt-and-pepper one, but in a waterproof canvas material).
I hope the coloring of these trousers isn’t too blue to go with my...
Custom Hide 1945 briefcase
I've owned a Custom Hide 1945 briefcase since last Christmas. It's a great piece and very durable. But my handle keeps coming un-stuffed: The two leather plugs keep working their way out, followed by some unsightly yellow foam rubber. Has anyone else had this...
Have you tried the Pilot Varsity? I had real good luck on those before I could afford the "real thing." I even was refilling them with syringes, which meant they basically were paid for after about three refills.
What is it with the federal government and black ink? How on earth do you...
Jefferson Barracks
Pardon the intrusion, but I couldn’t help but mention that my grandfather was born in Jefferson Barracks in July, 1915, and the 1920 census lists his family still there (well, my great-grandmother and the kids in Carondelet Township; my great-grandfather at the base). So in...
I think it's been said on here before, and I agree: They need to reboot the franchise if they're going to make more films - not because Harrison Ford isn't a great Indy, but because the '50s and '60s are no place for Indiana Jones.
Have Ford pick out a replacement (preferably not LaBoeuf) and...
I hate to say it, but I thought the production values seemed lower for this season. The suits looked thin and odd, and the sets felt more clausterphobic. Did they have their budget dramatically reduced or something?
The acting was superb as ever, though.

I enjoy perusing the “Ask Andy” forums archives, though I’m afraid I’m not gutsy enough to become a poster. I am curious about the term “Am-Jack” that I see used in many posts (especially by those discussing “Trad” fashion). I think (from context) that it refers to your average, modern male...
Ah yes, the ARDUN, or perhaps...
...a Maxi?
Actually, I think the Maxi was an F-head setup with overhead exhaust valves, but the intake valves still in the block (note the stock-type intake manifold).

Very neat. The photo reminds me of Jalopnik's "DOTS" (Down On The Street") series of candid old-car photos from around Alemedia Island, CA. It's great to see one in its natural environment and with a little "patina."
Rampant decay is bad, but evidence of use is good. I like the British...
See, I really like early overheads in '32s, a 331 Cadillac or a 303 Olds is just as cool as a flathead in the right car.
And I've seen plenty of flathead-powered rods that were just as wrong as can be - billet pulleys; ugly, modern heads; ball-milled air cleaners on a 4bbl carb, etc...
Yeah, when I said "modern primer" I meant epoxy primer versus old-style lacquer or enamel primer which are porous and will absorb moisture. The DP series - DP90 being the rat rod standard (with John Deere "Blitz Black" enamel a close second).

I actually finally got a canteen stopper from WPG! I ordered the Royal Navy submarine sweater repo they make (alas, it was too short in the arms, so I’m waiting for a return code), and had the presence of mind to get a stopper at the same time. Unfortunately, I now realize that I don’t know...
That would be a splendid little car. I wouldn't mind a mid-fifties Morris Minor myself. My grandparents moved to Japan in the mid-fifties and discovered their '52 Buick was too big for the roads over there - they sold it and bought a Morris.
So far as flat black goes, I've never cared for...
Why Diamondback, I didn’t realize you were a railroad guy too. That’s some great information. I’ve always been a fan of machine-age industrial design, and the streamliners of the 1930s in particular.
Anyone who wants to kind of relive riding the 20th Century (albeit in its pre-streamlined...
