Here's a flea market find. A LHS Certified Purex Imported Briar "Caboose". Looks to be from the late 40's or 50's. Someone had reamed the bowl already, I finished with a bit of sandpaper, and gave the rest of the pipe a good cleaning and polish. The rim could use a little more attention, but...- moehawk

Thanks Steve! I like how the newspaper fills in a part of the story of the hat's journey from the East Coast to the West. Still, I wish I could find a hat that stopped at a U. S. mint long enough to get a few $100 bill size reducers. :) -

I envisioned an apple as I went after that sawed-off briar bowl, but ended up with something that more resembles an acorn. Much better eye and hand appeal. I sanded it to a 10,000 grit finish, then polished it with a homemade mineral oil, beeswax and carnauba wax mixture. I then used...- moehawk
