Are FLers opimistic about the future?

There is the slightest irony in a group which places more value in the mores of a time period decades past saying that "we are moving backwards."

Three sizes is too much to pad out, I would imagine.

Are FLers opimistic about the future?

What you're saying is true. I should have been more clear in my initial post. So it's my fault for being vague. What I meant was that the educational system we have now is still an educational system for an industrial economy...an economy that no longer exists. From a longitudinal...

To Feather or Not to Feather?

some links: http://www.davidmorgan.com/product_info.php?products_id=70 http://www.goorin.com/hat-extras http://www.hatsinthebelfry.com/product/asst-feather-pak.html Most brick and mortar stores have a selection as well. You just slide them under the ribbon.

Are FLers opimistic about the future?

Generally optimistic, yes. Pessimistic about climate change (saying that talking about climate change is a "political statement" is the actual politicized statement. Acknowledging the scientific consensus on it is an apolitical matter) and overpopulation as other astute posters have said...

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

Cinematographer Gilbert Taylor, most well known for Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, and the original Star Wars: A New Hope, has died, age 99. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-23808854

    What color hat?

I'd go for Bob's eggplant, but that's just me. DJH has one from Bob. Black Cherry is actually a surprisingly versatile color.

NEWBIE: I need help finding a fedora

Nyah, I'm not sure I understand the point you're making about the brim. You're referring to the slope of the brim and how it appears as a curve from a profile view and not a straight line? Fedora brims are generally made with some degree of flange, some flatter, some rounder. The Fed won't...

NEWBIE: I need help finding a fedora

Production made hats? Not really. I mean there's the Borso Alessandria, but you're better off going custom at that price, IMHO. Several other custom makers can do straight sided crowns, though Mr. Penman makes a nice hat.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Thanks Rusty! Thank you, kind sir, it's made a few appearances here and there. It was one of those great eBay snags...I think this cost me $70, plust $50 for cleaning...all told, not too bad! Thanks Manfred! Today's hat (although not today's picture), Borso Torino: Andy, looking good in...

NEWBIE: I need help finding a fedora

I'm a big fan of carbon grey, although I feel I may be in the minority. David Morgan sells Akubras in the US, but the Fed is exclusive to the Hattery/Hatsdirect.com.

    Adult Boys

While social media and the internet have expanded both what people see and how many people see it, I find no reason to believe that there's an actual measurable increase in, shall we say, general debauchery. I mean, such public acts certainly weren't invented over the weekend at Slane castle...

Funny how Lizzie cites an article urging people to drink responsibly, and ending with telling readers to "face your Correct Adult Life with dignity" as 'evidence' that young people are drinking "for the sole purpose of getting yourself hammered."

History is also replete with those who shouted about the end being nigh, only to be proven wrong time and time again. I don't tuck my shirt it because I don't want to.* Call me sloppy, or stupid if you wish, but the world turns on. *well, ok button up shirts with jeans, no. Shirt with suit...

I've read her posts before and interacted with her once or twice. I believe that there are many (but not all) here who are simply projecting their own grievances about the problems of today and making them generational. There is a generational debate in this country and it's not new. Before...

I really don't see what the big deal is about simply accepting the objectively fact that your anecdotal experience is not applicable to the world at large. Your argument here is fundamentally flawed, as you're using your anecdotal experience to make a comparison to today's world. There is no...

Not part of your immediate experience, no. But it was a part of the world you grew up in regardless of whether or not you personally saw it. That much is clear.

I'm not discounting your experience. I'm merely pointing out that the idea that modern society has a fundamentally different relationship to drugs/alcohol isn't backed up by the evidence. Drug and alcohol use has ebbed and flowed, but we are not today at a severely different point with it than...
