Ok, so a couple of weeks ago I was in this antique mall......saw this hat and lost my mind! Now as a rule....I really, really, do not like these cloth hats......maybe it was because it was my size.....maybe the deep olive plaid (which does not show in the picts).....maybe because it had...
Specifically, it is cowhide that is double tanned (2 tanning methods used) AND often infused with waxes and oils. Makes this form of leather VERY strong and supple!
This type of leather makes great bridles, reins and cinch straps!;)
Not vintage, but in fact new, I like it a lot!;) AND it's UV rated....at least I think it is....the information is all in German!o_O;) Really nice fully embroidered tip label! Just like the old days......

Ok, I have this hat that was not recieving much love, even though the felt and color are simply wonderful, AND it is a thin ribbon OR clone......and I really like my thin ribbon hats. I grab it to go out the other day and the wife says: "I really don't like that one on you".....:rolleyes...

Here is a link to a newspaper ad from 1953 showing 101 Ranch...
Or inside too really, wood and coal stoves and fireplaces...tallow candles, manufactured gas and kerosene lamps and fixtures....lots of sooty and greasy things EVERYWHERE!!

PS Here is a quick black hat contribution......a Mayser.....which I wore this past Saturday while out and...
A litte off topic but, I too have a fine lightweight Italian wool shawl collar cream (which is the proper color rather than the polyester bright white) dinner jacket....they are actually worn year around depending on the occasion.....BUT for summer wear, here are some examples of hat wear as...
No pictures, but I always wear a coat and tie for Easter Dinner as well as a hat of course....Yesterday was my tawny early 50's Adam premier homburg. Got the usual looks, and a fairly usual comment (this time from a young woman) about looking "dapper".........
At least this time (and...
