The goatskin is 3.0 oz and is pretty soft and supple. Very happy with it. It's my first goatskin jacket so I can't compare it to other vendors' goat, which may be different, since Langlitz specs their leather for riders.
Just got my new Langlitz flight jacket in the mail this morning.
Specs:
Black goat
No epaulets or cargo pockets
Leather lined handwarmer pockets
Gun pocket
Map/Breast pocket
Nickel Talon zipper
Grey/Silver detachable shearling collar for winter
Snug fit

One approach might be to identify a particular hide Horween has available, and ask other members of TFL if they'd be interested enough for sufficient leather to sponsor a jacket themselves. If you get enough interest, you could pool resources to get sufficient square footage to cover all the...
Realistically, a highly customized jacket should be attempted a) once one has had experience with some variety of leather jackets, and b) with a vendor one has experience with re: sizing based on one's measurements. I have a guy that makes my suits and while the first suit was 'ok' and...
I think if you feel that a Cossack collar makes you look squat, and being squat looking isn't something you're after, then that's reason enough to avoid that particular collar. Lack of self-awareness (re: clothes) is a good thing; it makes you look comfortable in your own skin. Or, in this...
The chromexcel HH used by Aero is dual tanned, i.e. both chrome and veg tanned. Check out Horweens site. More info about the tanning process and leathers that are both chrome and veg tanned.
I noticed on the order page that there are many patterns you can order that are currently NOT linked off the home page on the main site. Have people ordered these patterns, and if so is there information about these patterns available someplace other than the Goodwear site?
Here's the list I...
Went through a similar period in the early 2000s buying stuff from eBay, mostly sportcoats/blazers/suits. Since then I've gotten rid of about 80% of the stuff I got. But I did learn a lot and now I am 100% bespoke for suits, working with a tailor I trust. When you know what you want re...
I will eventually have a sample of a jacket from the 'best' vendors and then and only then will I be personally certain re: how the quality of one stacks up against another, etc. In the meantime, I've learned a lot from the people on the site with actual experience with the vendors' products...
I don't think this is universally true. I've bought many things for much more than $1k without such a safety net. I think it's just a question of 'risk tolerance'. If losing $1K or so on a jacket is going to hurt that badly, then, yes, I agree, don't buy it if you can't get a safety net for...
LW doesn't appear to offer a 'safety net', I agree. And the pictures on his web site aren't very good. In fact, the pictures of LW's here on TFL are much more compelling and bring out the better features of his product. I don't claim to understand what LW's business model is but it doesn't...
His antics might alter the perception of his products, but the products are what they are. Once you see/feel the product, I think a lot can be forgiven. Also, if we see it in a shop front full of day-glo signs, it won't matter, because the jacket is the jacket. If given the choice between an...
