Some member over at the VLJ will be quite apoplectic, lol. And, no, the artisan will not likely become the businessman, the artisan would rather cease to exist than to become the businessman.
I understand your sentiment, but I disagree on the "exactly the same jacket" part. I feel objection to this sweeping statement because of my own hands on practice in garment making in the past three years. Now with inside knowledge of thread tension, the intricate know-how on pattern and seams...
my sister in law falls squarely into the latter, completely hopeless in making money and providing service....but her craft (making miniature things, whatever they are) is out of this world. If she cares about marketing herself, she'd be in the league of Stan Winston!!
Ah, gentlemen, I wouldn't say a hoax. I just spoke to John on the phone and via email last week, as I was interested in one of his ready made jackets. He's still pleasant and upfront to speak to as usual and my take is this, there are two types of "producers", one type is essentially a...
No offense taken. Just feels like a rather “overcoat” ish when I put it on. Like wearing an oversized Aero long half belt.

Yes, the sleeves are not very long, but typical of that era. The “conservative” cuff where the suit jacket or the dress shirt cuff sticks out

The Shoemart is restocking the Alden 405 and alerted me that the previous "generation" is coming to an end, meaning that the cowhide color is changing. They had two pairs of the previous color left, the darkish brown, the new batch will all be in the pumpkin color (again)! However, don't fret...
Always enjoy brainstorming Bowen, no worries. Chamois (how do you pronounce this word? in the French way or as is? Sham Moys? or ShaMoa? LOL). Lovely little deer! more like a goat? Anyhow, I tried leather honey on it last night the darkening was less, but could be just because the honey sits on...
The darkened color does not go away, I already knew that, and the hide absorbs the liquid very fast, so i don't plan to finish the whole jacket because that's just insane, it'll drink up my full bottle of liquid. Under the collar, I already applied some last year, it dried very quickly and...

This time I used Leatherique Rejuvenator. I also have Montana Pitch Blend, Prcard (it contains silica though). I need to apply everywhere to get it all colored. The pocket is even simply because I cover it all with the oil.

midwestern ST, red wool lining Talon zipper. Discoloration from conditioning. Maybe deerskin shouldn’t be conditioned.

Revive the thread here with a question: how to condition a very soft tan deerskin? leave discoloration aside, could conditioner damage it? Are deer tanned differently? Of course, I use the best stuff with no silica.
