small necks
Australia, but maybe made in UK, they're too small for me and I'm not the Maca generation at all, so I can't figure out what to do with 'em
I found a box of these, but they are more like ties, except for the fact that they are 9 inches shorter than any other tie that I have, and impossible to do even a 4-in-hand on without it ending up the length of a bib,
any idea...nice patterns and fabric tho. Sorry about broad shot, cropping...
vinegar
I found this totally covered in mould in an old shed, utterly white and stiff as a board. Scrubbed it with vinegar, left in the sun for a fortnight, soaked it in neatsfoot oil, left in the sun for a month or so...voila..how old think u all, fifties?
Constant daily and workwear has told on this old Akubra, but there are no hatters within 600 miles, and I don't know about trusting any drycleaners. It's beyond the usual brush and so forth.
blocking
THanks guys, have to ask tho, what are flanges in the hat sense, I've seen some great old timber blocks in hatters and and antique shops but I did this one by hand, just like we did at school in the old days, warm water and fingers.
I found this 3x Beaver Stetson at a market for 5 bucks with no ribbon and a foul pork-pie block so beloved of bumpkins, so I reblocked it to the best of my ability and got a free 2nd hand ribbon from a hatter.
looks OK I reckon
hat ribbon
From my experience in such matters, ordinary grosgrain has the problem you mentioned, which is why there is a special type that is actually slightly 'curved' to account for the slope up to the crown, it's very hard to get in any colour other than black, but I would suggest contacting...
Can anybody put a date to this shirt,a couple of people have said it's 60's but I doubt it, I see it more as something Tyrone Power would have worn at a pool party.
homemades
Well I might try a coconut oil preparation once I have worked my way through several more bottles of Spruso and Bardsley's and other vintage hair care products from my collection, but I do make my own aftershave/bracer:
50% each of rainwater and methylated spirit and one tablespoon...
Is the real thing still available, I've just about finished a pint bottle I got in an old barber's shop a few years back, although that may have been just a modern version, even if it was 40's/50's.
