    If they're properly tailored, the larger outer buttons will be attached to smaller backing buttons on the button stand, which will make them much more sturdy in use and lessen the strain on the fabric.

    I've drooled over that jacket in Tatanaka brown jacket before - I'm not so taken with the pocket placement and the pocket flap profile, but I prefer the buttons in the waistband over the later snaps.

    I think that it's a question of making a 'shirt' (the lining) to size and then reattaching through the existing holes - by hand to avoid making new holes - unless they're very, very precise with the sewing machine. The cuffs are then reattached. Quite labour intensive...
