Glad to turn you on to them. If you order a pair, I'd love to know how you like them, and how they look on a face. -Dave

Vintage professions you'd like to see come back.....

Same here, but a coal fireplace remains in my living room, and I occasionally toy with the idea of getting the chimney re-lined and trying it out. -Dave

I'm afraid I don't even know what a "noticeboard pin" is. I'm pretty ham fisted anyway, I think I'd better stay out of horology. -Dave

Alas, in a couple days of wear, I've discovered that this watch gains about 15 minutes in 24 hours. I re-set it at 6am and already it reads 10:02 at 9:56. :( -Dave

Do you burn coal at home, Tom? -Dave

I didn't think the full-size Blazer used the T-5? Or is this an S-10 model someone swapped a V8 into? -Dave

    Golden-Era Hot-Rodding

How far are you from this slant six on Allentown Craigslist? A slant six that was running last year may very well not need a rebuild to be swapped. If you were closer, I'd turn you on to my mom's neighbor, who has a '64 Dodge truck chassis with a slant six in his back yard that he'll never do...

Oh, and I just gotta say, the dash board may be my favorite feature on these cars. -Dave

    Golden-Era Hot-Rodding

Well, if you don't want to stay flathead (and I'd note that Dodge made some pretty large displacement engines that will bolt in), I reiterate my support for a Slant Six - bulletproof engines that fit and can be built for good power. -Dave

No second hand. It occasionally concerns me, because I can't see it ticking, and I have to listen. -Dave

Okay, an old subject, but back to safety glasses for a minute. Doing a little research, it appears there’s still one vintage frame still in production: Phillips Model 70-f Some websites illustrate them in black, but all say they’re only available in smoked gray now. Anybody have a...

Let's See Your Watches! The Vintage Watch Thread.

Unfortunately, I am too nervous to open it up. I’ll have to stop back in the watch store and see if the guy knows anything about it. -Dave

Needing a watch battery, I bought this Elgin today at my local watch shop: Any clues as to its vintage? -Dave

    What are you wearing today??

I should mention that I didn't mean to imply you have a mediocre look, but when I typed out the analogy it seemed to be more logical that way. You look good too - but if I'm going to be pinning anyone up on the garage wall, it's probably Berlin. -Dave

    What are you wearing today??

It's a playful way of saying that he does not compare favorably with you. Imagine a stage production where a very good performer is followed by a mediocre one. I suspect the saying comes from Vaudeville. -Dave

gray hats and brown trench coats?

I frequently wear a tan trench coat with a gray fedora. I think it looks fine, but I can’t speak as to whether it’s acceptable to fashionistas. I do it because it’s better than getting wet, and I’m not concerned enough (or flush enough) to go buy a raincoat to match every hat. Besides, here...

Driving golden era cars in the modern era

The S10 long-box frame seems to be a swap well suited for early ‘50s pickups. The AD Chevies, in particular, almost seem like the S-series chassis was designed for them. Does your Cornbinder have the enlarged wheel wells like a lot of heavy trucks? If so, what do you plan to do for rear...
