I’ve been a WW2 re-enactor since 1989 and have a full AFF impression with several A-2 jackets. I’ve been around active duty USAF folks in these uniforms, hundreds of veterans and several reunions in same. This is me in the front row to the far right in this photo:
I have never ONCE had anyone...
I used my Underwood two weeks ago at a spectator re-enactment at Ft Stevens, Oregon (within sight of where rounds from the Japanese sub I-25 landed in 1942), to type an article for a magazine I was really writing about the event. At the event I noticed that if you’re REALLY trying to write...
Good point. Crying shame a lot of people in the hobby don’t think of things in that way. As for the aprons (which I agree with the point that they rarely are seen in period photos and the vets don’t normally recall using them), I have also talked with plenty of ground guys from WW2 over the...
I earlier posted here and suggested a slightly younger Dean Jagger lol
Can anyone do better than for the likes of me?
I'm on the right of this photo, of course... :p
Snapshot of me from Saturday, actually writing a magazine article for the Normandy event at Ft Stevens (Oregon), not far from where a 5-inch shell from the Japanese sub I-25 struck the coastal artillery fort in 1942. I am currently editing my article for WW2 re-enactors Magazine...
The only thing about these air show spectator events that bugs me is the backgrounds. Yes, it’s neat to see the GI’s and Germans and all their vehicles doing their thing, but how seriously can you take it when there’s a Chevron sign, kid inflatable toys and modern hangars in the background? lol
I gave up on getting my wife into any vintage uniform long ago. Crying shame too, as she’s petite and would look cute as heck in that impression. It’s just not for her.
Beats me why more females in the hobby don’t do correspondent impressions. Then they’re not bound to the field hospital or...
I have never owned one but sure have shot a few of them with both live bullets and blanks. You’re right, live .45 caliber ball ammunition will not produce that kind of muzzle flash.
But the public thinks Tommy gun should shoot forth flames based on previous movies. And thus, they shall. So let...
If you show up at the Ft Stevens event next weekend, I'll be there on Saturday writing an article on that event for this magazine.
They have asked me to add a profile of myself as they're listing everyone who regularly contributes (makes sense in my case as they already have enough stuff for...
While I can't say I'd be too shocked if it were true, I also wouldn't be shocked that the KGB agent who wrote it made it up. There are things in the KGB files that the DoD has read that made them laugh, about events and people's actions we know to be totally false today, probably stuff written...
It is a sore spot with me that so many people in re-enacting who decide to put together a correspondent impression wind up with a field desk and more equipment than a Battalion’s personnel section ever had. In fact, correspondents had to beg, borrow or steal rides where they could. The Public...
I know two guys locally who make such a big deal about age and weight (one you can do nothing about and the other can be pretty tough), yet, but have moutaches that would look correctly only in the civil war time period. I remind both of them that all they have to do is re-familiarize themsevles...
Yeah, I’d allow some very early diesels on the RR (but steam would still have to rule). I’m still waiting for the finishing touches on a PA-1 rebuild going on just south of where I live. Here’s a link to it: http://www.nkp190.com/. As for the watch, I have two of those so I’m good to go!
And I...
Heck, that’s where “elegant” dining seems to going in a lot of places anymore. I took my wife to Seattle’s Space Needle for dinner for our anniversary last year and half the people there were dressed like that, and that place supposedly has a dress code!
This week I finally got an original M-41 jacket used by a correspondent (sadly, not named, though). Last night I broke out my camera and other stuff to get this shot. Everything in the photo is original, including the very rare Correspondent TM and the pen is actually marked USAAF…
I just got the first issue yesterday from across the Pond. Yes, it’s UK/EU centric at this time because that’s where the publisher is. I’ve e-mailed Stuart back and forth several times and I am confident that he’s genuinely interested in the re-enacting scene here in the colonies as well.
There...
Nice video. I found the medic “TC” in the Stuart tank funny (around 2:00).
It’s funny to me how in the years I’ve been in the hobby, the focus has totally shifted from German to US. Time was, all the group newsletters were edited and had stories mostly about German folk. I remember reading the...
That second M-8 photo is downright incredible. I love it!
Argh, appears to be more modern eyewear (guy on the right)! Also, what is it with all the guys who have the big bushy moustaches in the hobby? They’re everywhere! I guess they’re CW re-enactors as well? I guess you could find a photo of a...
