Bob from Black Sheep dropped me a line to let me know that my heather felt hat is going to be coming around in the next few weeks. I'm very excited for this hat.
Here's some pics from Matt's instagram:

Brown Stratoliner special edition - same color combo as my Black Sheep Hatworks Milan
They're in the 2016 Spring catalog in a few different colors, but JJ is the only dealer that has them in stock that I know of. Although the ones JJ has are sized s-m-l. The catalog shows proper sizes, 6 7/8 - 7 3/4, in natural, brown, navy, and sage.
Hmm....
Can you post some pictures?
In short, it's basically not possible to say with any certainty what the makeup of a vintage hat was. The X-rating system (5x, 7x, 10x, 100x, etc) was never consistent even within the same manufacturer, to say nothing of an industry wide standard.

You'll need to find a big group of buyers to even have a chance of getting another felt color. The bluegrass green started out that way, so it is possible, but it'll take leg work.

Oh my, the discussion on shrinkage can be very nuanced. Buried in the depths of the collective knowledge here are some very good explainers from our resident hatters and people whom have likewise handled many more hats than I.
That having been said, there certainly are a few generalities we...

Velours can be formal or not.
....I mean...there are lots of black hats.
Do YOU have a preference for ribbon width? Edge treatment? Brim size?
The Akubra Bogart is a decent hat that will hold up to inclement weather well.
IMHO, a finished edge and wider ribbon are better suited for a formal look. In that vein, you...
