I have them in my Highwayman and have no problem with them at all - they are staying in. However, the cuffs on this medium weight jacket were so tight, the only way I could get my arms out was to grip the end of sleeve with opposite hand and pull like crazy until my hand eventually came free...
The fit looks great to me - my personal favorite is the brown one, just because I like brown leather. Thanks for the photos, I enjoy seeing different jacket styles being worn.
Cheers
After fighting with my new Aero for over a week now I finally decided that the storm cuffs were not a good idea in a lighter weight jacket. I originally intended to omit them from my order but somehow I forgot - my mistake. Whilst I don't seem to mind them in my heavy horse Highwayman, in...
As someone who prefers brown leather, that's a Vanson I could wear - for me, it really is the business :)
On their website they list a hide called "Reddish Tan" - would this be the same?
A very nice jacket anyway - thanks for posting the photos, this is the first brown Vanson I've seen.
Thanks for that Lama - do know of any photos anywhere that show a jacket in their brown horsehide?
Mr Peacoat - I tend to forget that we are world wide here and the odd colloquial expression might cause some confusion. Yes, 'the business' is common here for anything really good. There are...
Very, very nice jacket HD, it's wearing in a treat and the fit looks perfect.
I would seriously consider one but I'm not really a black leather wearer. Do you know if Vanson do anything in a dark brown, similar the Aero brown front quarter horse, or are they predominantly black leather...
The main advantage is to protect the bottom edge of the lining which seems to get a lot of wear. Vintage leather jackets owners could probably confirm, but i have seen a few photos of really old jackets where the bottom edge of the lining was worn through completely. For me, it was to also...
The labels on my two Areos are different. My mid weight Californian label just says 'Horsehide' but my heavy Highwayman reads 'Front Quarter Horsehide'.
Hope this helps.
Onestar - Yes, I did as Lenny did and ordered all pockets corduroy lined. It is a great feature and they feel great - a must for all my jackets from now on. The best thing is, Aero didn't charge any extra - what's not to like :)
OneEyeman - Hi Lenny, this corduroy feels so warm I...
Congratulations on your find, I've been on the look out for ages for a real nice one in my size. There seems to be plenty of shabby ones around but finding a mint pre 1979 is not easy. I do have beauty, but it's just a little too snug for comfort - they are great quality coats. Enjoy!
Cheers
The common riding is a worsted wool and feels like a soft blanket, so it sort of feels warm. In reality, leather jackets are not the warmest things, even the heavy horse, so no matter what lining you get, when the temperature really drops you will need to wear the right layers under it. I...
Many thanks for all the kind comments gentlemen. Choosing a new jacket is always a difficult choice, especially when you have a picture in your mind of what you want, but it's not quite there in the standard patterns available. As it turned out, the modifications worked well and I'm very happy...
After a 12 week wait, my new Aero Californian in russet jerky horse arrived. I chose the medium weight hide as a warm weather jacket to compliment my heavy horse Highwayman, which I still wear at every opportunity. The Californian was chosen for it's more angled and forward hand warmer pockets...
I found this thread where bobjones shows the two tartans, the black Stewart and the Grant.

There are huge choice of tartans and each one has many variants, some strong colors and some more subdued. If you want to see...
