    Shooting Coats/Jackets

I guess postimg doesn't keep images around for long, which is fine since it's free. In any case, here's that corduroy jacket being worn by Prince Philip and Patrick McGoohan in Ice Station Zebra.

    The TFL Effect

I agree with this 100%, I can't throw out stuff that's serviceable. Ideally I try to find someone who will genuinely appreciate and use something I no longer can but that's easier said than done. In any case, I wish there was a support group for undoing "the TFL effect"...

Trench Coat - the 'Ultimate' Thread!

First issued in 1961? That seems late, unless that's when they were widely issued. It's a somewhat puzzing topic: I've posted photos of identical coats being worn during WW2, so perhaps generals and senior officers had them made up or private purchase during the war, and only later the military...

Trench Coat - the 'Ultimate' Thread!

^ omg I can't believe those prices! Thrift stores in my parts are expensive. Both look like good coats so I think you did well. Botany 500 was a name that London Fog coats were sold under (or alongside), so that coat should be rock solid. I agree the black one fits better (the belt helps, do...

Trench Coat - the 'Ultimate' Thread!

The US Army issued heavy wool d-b coats as a stopgap for a shortage of winter clothing for a couple winters early in Europe but once the M1943 jackets and liners became available the greatcoats went away at least on the front line. Officers often wore a cotton trenchcoat with liner. Generals...

Oh so I can spec whatever length, that's good. Thanks. If I get one I'll buy new.

Thanks very much Jejupe and dubpynchon... just found an e-bay listing of a size 42 in which the seller posted photos of the measuring tape on the jacket: 25" chest on a 42, so yeah these fit biggish but that's fine with me. dubpynchon, what's the sleeve length on your size 42? That's the main...

Trench Coat - the 'Ultimate' Thread!

^ that's very nice GHT, it's one of those US military officer's post-war coats (although a few generals had them during the war)

Can anyone comment on the fit of Aero Barnstormers? I'm sure they fit "true to size" but that can mean different things to different people. I'm a 42 and I'm wondering if a 42 would be snug or roomy.

Trench Coat - the 'Ultimate' Thread!

I've seen a photo of Robert Mitchum in the 1950s wearing a dark trenchcoat, either black or navy blue (the photo is b&w so it's impossible to tell which). But for what it's worth I have rarely seen dark trenchcoats in old photos.

    Burned on Ebay

Just heard from the vendor and they have the PayPal record but nothing from e-Bay. They said they'll contact e-Bay and try to find out what's going on.

    Burned on Ebay

There's no indication of any kind on the e-Bay site that I actually bought anything, no record at all. Their email to me warnign me the payment didn't go through and I should re-do it isn't even in my e-Bay "inbox". So it's very weird. But now that the payment has gone through (to someone) I...
