Well, I'm not wild about the heavier cologne. Last night I took my wife out to dinner at an upscale restaurant. About halfway through dinner a group of four sales types arrived and sat at the next table. All wearing a lot of aftershave and cologne. Completely covered up what were the...
I have way too many books, despite mercilessly weeding them out. At last count still well over 1000 in my house.
Now I try to only buy for my Kindle. And keep weeding the bookshelves.
My father's generation were the WWII vets. My father, most of my uncles, and most of my neighbors of that age were all veterans.
I can remember looking through a photo album belonging to one of my neighbors who served on the USS Enterprise and was on it in 1945 off Kyushu, Japan when a...
I truly believe that most people think the "good old days" were good because they think they understand that time from afar and would have it "under control". As opposed to not knowing what bad thing is going to happen next today that they can't control.
But how would you really have felt on...
I think it really does depend on the actual color of the hat. Tan covers a lot of ground (to me) - from silverbelly to a green khaki with brown sort of in between.
Silverbelly and green both can go ok with black to me. The closer to brown the color is the less I'd personally wear it with...
I meant to add that I've recently started occasionally wearing disposable contacts when I'm not having to do close work. The newer toric lenses seem to correct my astigmatism quite well. The problem with contacts is that I then need reading glasses for close work and that really defeats the...
I've worn glasses most of my life and by and large I've never really considered them a fashion statement. Once I escaped childhood and black plastic frames I've selected the most invisible frames available and they seem to go with everything just fine. Including hats.
I don't wear a suit to work, so an informal hat is fine. If I'm expecting rain I'll wear my Tilley LTM6. Protects against sun and rain.
If I'm going somewhere dressed up and expect rain, then I'll carry an umbrella although I've never had a hat actually ruined by rain.
I did have my...
A trick I've used successfully on HR pipe stems that had oxidized greenish is to rub them with a little mineral oil. Might work on a pen barrel too, but I've not tried it.
Well, the "rules" tend to shift around depending on just how well off one is. I've always thought that most of the "rules" were made up by and apply to the well off to separate themselves from the not so well off.
The "rules" seem to be most studied and touted by those attaining to at least...
There may be more new hat buying than what appears here. Given the negative attitude shown about certain brands in this forum I certainly wouldn't announce that I'd just bought a new Stetson or other brand put down here and open myself up to a bunch of negative comments about my choice.
She said you could return it if not satisfied. So return it if you don't like it and move on and don't bother with leaving any feedback at all.
Or would you rather fight with the seller?
I have the one from Cabela's and like it fine. I wouldn't wear it in the summer, though. It can be as hot in NYC as it is here in Durham and I can't imagine wearing a jacket of any kind in that heat and humidity. At least not during the day. Or evening here.
Sure, all you need is a purse to carry it in. :eusa_doh:
There are any number of hook devices you can carry around to hang your own hat from. The problem with all of them is that you have to carry one around.
When I was a kid in the 50's I had a 50 cent a week allowance. For 50 cents I could go to the local movie theater in South Norfolk, VA Saturday afternoons and pay 35 cents admission, get a box of popcorn for 10 cents and a coke in a cup for 5 cents. For that I'd see a double feature, previews...
My acid free boxes and tissue came from http://www.shopbrodart.com/shop/cb/p...aspx?pgid=3099
Not cheap by any means. I don't have inserts in them. I only have 4 of those boxes and use them for my most expensive hats only. Ones I don't wear every day and want to keep in pristine condition...
It's interesting that both hats and suits seem to be drawing comments. Seems like a not so subtle reaction to daring to dress differently and not conforming to the rest of the herd.
I think most of us (who work) have heard comments to the effect of "where's the interview?" if we show up...
I use an acid free tissue paper in my hat boxes. It helps cut down on discoloration (yellowing) of the fabrics and felts. For my better lighter colored hats I also use acid free boxes for the same reason.
