To me, the cool thing about the belts pictured are that the adjustment mechanism is at the far end of the adjustment area. So many side belts, including the test jacket I was sent by JL, have the D-rings at the end of a strap that extends to the middle of the side panel, thereby taking away a...
It's going to be sort of a half-belt meets bike jacket. I already had a tight M200 cafe racer from JL and didn't want the same jacket again, albeit longer and warmer. I sent Alan the final bill of particulars on Saturday and he hasn't gotten back to me yet. I'll probably call on Wednesday to...
I hate to sound like a shill for Johnson Leathers; but he's making me a jacket as this is being written and I'm a big fan. I didn't like the way the D-rings functioned on the test jacket he sent so "poof" I'm having buckles instead. BTW, I originally thought I'd buy my new jacket from...
I don't know your situation; but if you can go in and get fitted, to me that's a no brainer. I don't like ordering jackets online that turn out not to fit.
I thought you were in New York. I'm in Santa Monica too! Anyway, that's just what I did on a previous jacket. I called and made an appointment, then flew up for the day. Check out Johnson Leathers in the "search" function above. I, and a couple other guys, have written about their...
Alan, who is Johnson Leathers in San Francisco, is the greatest. I'm having a jacket made by him right now. I wish I could go in for fittings; but since that's impossible, I've sent emails, called on the phone, received a test jacket to try on for size, and even could have had a cloth mock-up...
I'm in the process of getting a half-belt from Johnson Leather and am currently awaiting the delivery of a test jacket for size. (What fun!) I really want this jacket to be righteous and it certainly will be somewhat idiosyncratic. I started to talk to Alan about contrasting stitching. He...
Thanks. I'll talk to Alan tomorrow. I guess weight will be the decider. I know ForestForTheTrees has a very similar jacket so, when he says 8 pounds plus, I have to pay serious attention.
I'm finalizing a half-belt from Johnson Leather for riding on my scoot and am deciding among some kind of cowhide, not horsehide. I have a jacket in the same finished 3 1/2 oz. leather used in San Francisco police jackets and I like it; but premium makers trumpet that they use 4 oz. This new...
I'm probably out of my gourd, but I'm thinking of a previously owned jacket with storm cuffs. I probably won't pull the trigger, but would they work on a motorbike? It would be for the cold, so ventilation wouldn't be much of a concern. I figure that there'll be gauntlets out there that could...
At first I was going to say I was disappointed; but then I checked out the Drifter, which seems to be a 50's Deluxe Half-Belt and I think looked pretty okay (and the Long Rider looks like a Long Half Belt). I wonder if you can say I want those jackets with zip sleeves. I suppose so. If I was...
To me, what makes it a great jacket is the two-way zipper. I can't see why all longish jackets don't have them. As soon as a little physical issue resolves itself, I'm going to order a longer half-belt and wouldn't dream of not getting a two-way.
I'm also very attuned to the length and it being between a HB and LHB sums up my concept totally. My JL M-200 is 22" in back and there's 4" between the back hem and my saddle so I figure 26" (or maybe 25 1/2) in back will be perfect (with a 2-way zipper in front). I have to admit, though, that...
I, too, want to add my voice to the choir of praise. I've been thinking of getting almost the exact same jacket from JL and you provide a great example. I'd like to know about the lining and how warm it is in what kind of weather. Thanks in advance.
