The hide is the same 2.5 oz Seal Goatskin we currently use. There were some other changes after this jacket. The inner buttons are now simulated ivory / bone, and the thread has been changed to medium brown. The top stitching and detail work are the same but the sizing went through several...
Cool! This was one of our very first jackets made. It is from a time at Headwind when we were still working out the details on the design and the production of the jacket. The back design was an error in the production of the jacket. The actual 37J1 has the two piece back with the yoke, no seam...
Generally G-1s run in a "Military fit". In other words a slim fit. I would suggest a size 40 for you in most contracts. Some of the older contracts, even in WWII, ran a bit bigger. Also the tolerances are not too precise. +/- 1/2" on the chest in the modern specs. A size 40 can have a chest of...
We should be able to make you one for a decent price at Headwind Mfg Let me get together with our pattern makers and run down some material options. Are you leaning towards canvas or is cotton an acceptable material as well? Also what color are you interested in?
This is very interesting. If most A-2s were chrome tanned, then why are so many repros made from Vegetable tanned hides? It makes sense to use chrome tanning for the military flight jackets because of the toughness and resilience it offers. I know the USN was using many chrome tanned hides...
Hello everyone, we have a lot of updates to check out on the site! There is now a growing "Testimonials" section and some customer photos as well. There are more Greatest Generation Mfg (aka: Steve S.) Jacket models on the way too. They will be posted very soon on the site...
Hello all, I have been beta testing the A-1 for some time now and have really given it rough treatment. It has held up to everything I have thrown at it. I decided to do a HWT on the jacket to bring out more grain, and to shrink it a little as it was a little big on me. The results were...
Wow looking good! Glad to see you are getting along with the Knoff and the fit is great! Truly an amazing piece. Happy I got a chance to own it for a short time. I didn't wear it while I had it. I'm a size 40-42. Enjoy!
I like the color combo! I don't like the pocket flaps. They are almost like modern G-1 pockets. Put some scalloped pocket flaps on it and I think you have a winner!
The site has been updated and now has a "Materials Page" with more info on our leather and materials:

They have always offered custom service on their jackets. I got one of their A-2 about 10 years ago and they did custom work then. If they are not offering sizes though, that is new. In my experience their patterns on the A-2's are a "Modern Fit", 1/2 to 1 size bigger than "Military Fit".
Here are some images of our new Antique Mahogany Capeskin. It is a more dull and darker shade of brown with subtle darker undertones and more grain than the Russet Capeskin. It is a chrome tanned 2.5oz hide, a bit thinner than the Russet which is 3oz. This hide will be an option on our A-1, A-1...

Good news! We have been able to stream line some of our logistics issues and are now able to set the prices on the A-1 and 37J1 back to the original level. I am excited to be able to do this and provide excellent quality reproductions at a price range that is less than half of the other...
Here are some more shots of the first test jacket. It came out nice with only a few minor adjustments to make. I really like how the collar turned out! This hide on this one is a thick 3.5oz Capeskin. This jacket will also be available in 3oz black goatskin. This jacket will have tons of options...
Thanks to you all for the comments and support! I will be posting more detailed photos and fit pics by the end of the week. This model will be produced in India, but not at a sweat shop. My leather crafters in India are very skilled and do amazing work. The parts are all hand picked by me for...
Thanks! I really like the way the color combination came out looking. Sales are going well. I have had great customer feedback on the Capeskin and I am very pleased with the way my personal jackets are breaking in. Keep an eye out for more new jacket models coming out in the near future!
Fresh off the stitching tables yesterday! The black capeskin is quite thick at about 3.5 oz. Unique features include, 100% cotton sateen Scarlet red liner, 100% wool knits, an inside breast pocket, and a unique new collar design. The buttons are black antique style wide rimmed buttons. The...
