    Schlitz making a comeback............

I think Schlitz was more often than not a victim of its name regardless of its taste. I think its great that it's making a comeback, all these old time beers from regional breweries with their strong ethnic connections are what America came of age on during the twentieth century.

    Terms Which Have Disappeared

No he never said that, though that's never been an unfamiliar term. I think of skedaddle as being a Walter Brennan or Beverly Hillbillies term.

    Terms Which Have Disappeared

Dad would always tell us to "shake a leg" to hurry us up, and a small amount of something was "whisker" - "just a whisker farther", "just a whisker more milk in my coffee" (though he always drank tea with milk).

Wasting time at work. SSHHH don't tell my boss!

flickr is a dangerous thing! It just sucks me in and next thing I know I've killed an hour looking at pictures. Today it was with an album titled "Kodachrome, 1950s". Some of those fotos just make me want to crawl right in! Anyone else enjoy this?

    the watch cap

Not to dog you or otherwise suggest anything but, seriously? What prices were you seeing? Federal Army and Navy has a USN issue one for 7.99/ca.$15 shipped. I'm less than 100 yards away from an Army/Navy shop that wants to go out of business, next time I go for Thai (prob tomorrow) which is...

    Question about a wallet

I use eel skin - very glossy and vintage looking. I find they usually hold up for a few+ years then I get a new one. I don't believe I've ever paid more that $20 for one via Amazon.

"What once was a symbol of all things dashing is now a symbol for all things (people) that lurk for unhealthily long periods of time in a parent’s basement. But if today’s fedora fans have ruined the accessory for most of us, we can still ogle at the sophistication and style that goes into the...

How to tell wool from rabbit/fur felt

What is this?!!! Two pages of a thread and somebody hasn't chimed in to say you can tell a wool hat when people run away screaming in abject horror at the sight of it. Come on guys, you're letting me down. But seriously, in my experience it's a bit hard to quantify in words, though in...

Same here, though I tend to stop sleeping between 5 and 5:30 and usually get up a bit after 6. Sleeping in on weekends usually means til 7 or 8 at the latest. I just feel like the day is lost if I sleep in any longer, and I usually hate myself for it.

    What's for Dinner?

That's fine, liver isn't for everyone. I'd be game for heart, and I've never had any of the sweetbreads so throw those into the mix as well. Had a really really bad experience with some Braunschweiger about ten years ago that took a good week to get over, and I haven't been back since, so I'll...

    What's for Dinner?

Last night went to a local watering hole for dinner: Wife - buffalo chicken salad; son - spaghetti with meat sauce; me: liver and onions. We quite often go to some lower end family restaurants/diners, and I find that if just can't decide what to get, liver and onions does the trick quite...

    Felt hats in summer..

I usually stop wearing a hat when the weather starts to turn warm then start again when it becomes cooler, or when jacket weather sets in. I don't usually lament not wearing a hat during the summer (vitamin D seems to be an issue for me in recent years) but will perhaps look into a Panama/straw...

The Greatest Inventions of the 1940s

Oh my, thanks for the memory! I wallpapered many a room with my dad when I was at home. Now that I look back on it, for which I sincerely thank you, I have fond memories of it being a very special, almost bonding thing I did with my dad. We had a special 6'+ or so homemade table (2 long...

Yes indeed. I quite enjoyed my time with the "Art" book. It would be great if there were similar books for other historical personalities.
