Would "Raiders" have been as popular if the character had been hatless?

I don't think the fedora really had a significant role in making Raiders popular. It was just an integral part of the costuming, given the era the film portrays. (would that Ford wore it like it was actually worn during the era and not like a ball cap) The question that should be asked is would...

Hats From the Steamboat Arabia -- 1856

I shudder to think how they determined that. But I suppose every office has that one person who would volunteer to find out.

    I love the Fed IV!!

Seems to have some pretty odd taper to it front and aft. How did that happen? A side effect of shrinking to actual size?

Violin played on Titanic revealed for first time

Agree. From the photos I've seen the cracking doesn't seem to be too bad, certainly not catastrophic. Cracks in violins, depending on where, to what extent, and how cleanly split, tend to be very repairable, and often relatively easily too. A shattered violin on the other hand... though I've...

Violin played on Titanic revealed for first time

My vote goes for having the violin restored to playing condition the getting it out on tour. I'd pay to hear it.

The bound edge of the flanged rim, I can imagine, also aides in creating the snap-brim.

pls advise: Home made campaign hat / Montana crease

Thank you. Making costumes for him has always been fun. You should have seen the Mariachi costume! For the full effect: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkUfd_lHgYg

pls advise: Home made campaign hat / Montana crease

Final update: See photos for final product. Wasn't able to completely steam out the fedora bash so it remained a bit wrinkly, but I still managed to open out the crown. Forming the Montana crease was not at all fun as it had a tendency to form off center with regard to the brim shape. I ended...

pls advise: Home made campaign hat / Montana crease

I have complete faith the costume hat I bought will adapt as intended and serve it's purpose. So nobody has any experience creating that bash?

pls advise: Home made campaign hat / Montana crease

My son (3rd grade) is giving a presentation on Monday about the US Capitol. He wants to dress up as a Park Service tour guide. So I want to improvise an appropriate hat for him. I picked up a cheap brown fedora from a costume shop and will iron the brim flat, steam it and pop out the crown...

    What Are You Reading

Yes it is and I'm quite enjoying it. The author admits that the writing is a bit rough having been taken from his letters and diaries written at the time. That's what makes it so great.

    movie hats that inspired you...

This thread seems, to me anyway, to have digressed into a hat spotting thread.

    Harking for a simpler time.....

I believe I must have misread your statement - "I imagine that life wasn't as fast paced as it is today, which is something I find really sad." It seemed to me that you were lamenting that life back then wasn't fast paced as today, hence my question.

    Harking for a simpler time.....

Frankly I think the argument is over stated. Now really, how many of "those people" does the normal person really encounter on a daily, weekly, monthly basis? Ever? Are they really genuine about it or simply affected? I would dare say 99.99999...% are simply putting on airs as it were. Being in...
