We always used to do it with wedges and a sledge. Then I broke my father's thumb (what... I was 9 at the time!) thereafter we used a splitting maul and a sledge. Never did the big swing and split in one stroke type of thing. We usually did the splitting in the winter or at least colder weather...
I tried reading that several years ago and didn't get very far. I just didn't speak to me at the time. Perhaps I'll try again.
What I find very interesting and particularly sad at the same time, about that story is that while it's a tale about Percy Fawcett slogging through the remote Amazon...
Well, my reasoning for the restatement a mildly sarcastic acknowledgement that I had dangled the participle and corrected myself. Some people seem to be bothered by that, though I think I remember learning that it is based on an erroneous rule dating back to the turn of the 20th cent. I could be...
Oh, yes. Sorry that wasn't clear. I was distracted by the idea of making a journal out an empty 6-pack carrier. Well, actually more about emptying the container...
I would tend to agree but am not 100% sure as sometimes dived seems (sounds) acceptable:
Yesterday we dived on a wreck.
Yesterday we dove on a wreck.
Try not to dwell on it, I'm sure there are more important things to obsess over. Sorry,... over which to obsess.
During the winter months I've been known to simply take over a chair or two at a nearby empty table (much to my wife's disgust) for our coats and my hat. As far as I'm concerned its the price they pay for packing people in like cattle and giving no room for such necessary personal items. Other...

Yes indeed, if not possibly even a 59. If I recall correctly Akubra says the actual measurement of the Fed IV runs 1/2 cm smaller than the indicated size, so depending on shrinkage would definitely be the way to go. Exactly how much shrinkage is the question. Everybody's mileage seems to have...
A while back I was given a recipe for home made laundry detergent* that included Fels Naptha. Given that it's probably just "soap" now, any suggestion for a replacement ingredient? Maybe a shot of Lestoil?
* 1. One Bar of Fels-Naptha soap
2. One Box of Borax.
3. One Box of Washing Soda...
Now THAT'S an interesting typo (I assume)! Knowing a thing or two about music from that era, I can assure your there was plenty of music on both sides of that fence worthy of composting.
Please take no offense, but the title of this thread gave me a chuckle, to think that fencing masks, of all things, are collected to the same degree around here as fedoras. But why not I say! Love to see them. One question though, to anyone who is knowledgeable of fencing in the old time...
Sufferin succotash, don't blame me! That started several posts back.
Speaking of succotash, my grandmother would make it, or what we knew as succotash, whenever corn was in season. We kids hated it of course because she put those damn throat choking lima beans in it! What I would give for...
Fantastic effort, would that more quality radio dramas were being produced. Takes me right back to when I was a kid listening to the CBS Radio Mystery Theater. Remember those old radio earplugs?
