Damn, that's a nice Springfield. There's just something so completely Golden Age about a sporterized Springy with peep sights. It makes me want to go hunting wearing a campaign hat and knee-high boots.

    Bush Jackets

From the look in the catalog, this one is absolute ideal . . . or would be if it came in real sizes instead of SML, etc.

    Backyard chickens

I'd love to have backyard chickens but fear that it would lead to divorce. If for no other reason, we have a terrier and don't think she would leave the fluffy cluckers alone.

Didn't know where else to post...good for a chuckle

The artist has come to the Safari Club International convention several years running. He's amazingly good and has the '30's WPA style nailed. His landscapes of the canoe country make you want to climb in and start paddling. He also did an original acrylic of a black lab with Donald Duck in...

    Backyard chickens

I don't know why not. I find bay laurel a bit strongly flavored for my taste versus European laurel but I'm sure that given the aromatic oils in the leaves it would flavor up a chicken something fierce. If you try it, report back.

    Backyard chickens

If you want regular store-bought chicken to taste good beyond your wildest expectations, get the (rather expensive)cookbook Ad Hoc at Home. Tom Keller's roast chicken on a bed of winter vegetables is enough to make you grow your own turnips. The same technique but using a bed of rosemary...

    Backyard chickens

No, it isn't causing a salmonella outbreak, it's a reaction to it. Here in Lakewood we're allowed five hens per household . . . no roosters! Unfortunately we own a terrorier who would traumatize the poor birds. Plus my wife keeps pointing out that chickens and travel don't mix and she'd...

That is so sad! Fortunately the old girl now has a new owner who will treat her with proper respect. I love those small martinis. I have a match model that I'm going to convert to an indoor schuetzen gun and I expect to be importing a few more within the next months. They are such fun . . .

Beretta's are expensive but they do make thoughtfully designed shooting gear. Personally, for the money I'd have one made without the wraparound belt because I'm cranky that way. For most folks, though, the belt makes it 'safari'. I think having four pockets is the key.

Finally got to wear bespoke suit

I do believe you are the best accessory she could have wanted for her great day. That's one fine suit, sir!

I don't know about that. Since it was g'father's I'm inclined to leave it a display piece and go looking for a old Krag with no family history. But that is an interesting suggestion.

    Show us your Guns!

I have an old Krag that was chromed as a parade piece. I'm sure the breech end of the barrel is corroded beyond repair from all the black powder blanks my g'father shot though it while on the drill team. I've got a trapdoor Springfield that's the same way. I guess I really need to wood soap...

    Show us your Guns!

I used to have an M96 in 9.3x57 that had been sporterized. I had it rechambed for 9.3x62. Talk about a pocket rocket? Man! And handle? Whoever designed the stock on that bad boy must have done an apprenticeship in a London gun shop because it was the slickest, sweetest handling rifle I ever...

Which is weird because there aren't a lot of forests in Afghanistan.

    Bush Jackets

Has anyone any experience with L. L. Bean's "Explorer Jacket"? It seems to have none of what I consider useless accoutrements, like belt and shell loops, while still maintaining the general style and utility of what most folks think of when they imagine a safari jacket. What I like is that...

Looks kind of 'full-dress' to me. Mine is the khaki color, much better in the bush.
