John, here there isn't this store. And anyway, probably they wouldn't import such films. First they would have to make the subtitles, etc (no one would buy without them - OK, maybe me, but it's hard to understand at first run what the actors are saying!). A lot of costs to try to sell films that...
Just a little advice... Take a lot of care when opening any of these old Tv sets. Them use a lot oh HIGH VOLTAGE components. Some very early Tv tube got voltages as high as 27.000 Volts. Capacitors can storage eletricity for several years, sometimes several decades, ever if never turned on again.
Just finished "il fait toujour nuit" by Leo Malet.
From 1948, a trully "tough guy" story. But i really still don't know if it is a really good book or just another thriller. Anybody here have read Malet books? Any thoughts about?
I'm in a Larry Clinton mood today... Impossible not to be a huge fan of this orch!

(I would prefer Larry's own version. But didn't find at youtube).
Just to add what Undertow wrote.
Here is SP, in 1968, the Mayor made an experience. The traffic in downtown were very heavy, with its old streets, usually not straight (most streets from downtown were "designed" in XVIth Century). So they took off the asphalt from streets, prohibited cars...
After seeing this photo all can I say is:
1- She was a VERY VERY pretty woman;
2- this photography is wonderful!
3- why today's photgs need so much photoshop?
Maybe vintage clothing can really make some to look "older" to others. This clothing style is for adults, not kids. The image envolved here is of an adult - what can be misunderstood as a cloth to older people.
I not sure now, but if I remember well the very concept of "adolescence" as a...
Agree. Paper in war years was very bad... Specially the english books from those days (have a few from Focal Press - the very best photo books from those days). The pages are completely brown, without any flexibility. To turn the page means to break the page.
I had to make copies to use them.
Things changed a lot about public transport. The fact you are along with others is usually seen by some guys almost as a signal of poverty. (Try to tell them, as a joke, that airplanes are public transport. You will be surprised by the reactions!) Ever when you talk about luxury trains from the...
Got a Strauss Tv set (no, you never heard about this brand. Made in a family business here in São Paulo. Factory closed in 1963) from 1959/60. I still didn't get the patience and time to work with it... I don't like much Tv and don't like much the voltages, too. The diagram says 22 KV on the...
John is correct, of course. Better the care you give to the magazines, more it will last. But if the paper of the magazines is good you don't have to be much afraid. For example, LIFE magazines (have a few numbers from 1946 to 1957) used a very good paper, and without great cares they are very...
I always get this problem with cameras leather cases. The odor is terrible - and probably doesn't be a good thing to cameras. This odor is from microorganisms "living" in the leather. Sun is the best cure to it; usually several days.
With the cases usually I aply a wax for leather that clean...
Maybe this can be the result of one of those systems to give a direct positive from the camera. Something that used to be done in parks, etc. The photographer must to work quickly to give the results - and of course less material is wasted. When you get a flat negative over a black, reflecting...
Agree with Lincsong. The idea of efficient and confortable public transportation is something very vague, without a positive acting. This became the transportation for "poor people", for who can't afford a car. The automobile as sign of status. For many years the mayors are just helping the car...
