Seems to me men never unbuttoned their double-breasted suits back then and only a few inches of the tie was ever exposed. On some old movies I've seen some men take off their suit coats revealing that the tie was tied very short. I actually have a few ties where the design is mainly on the top...
I got to know the Salvation Army manager so well that even when I moved out of state he'd save the ones wanted so when I returned for a visit I'd have a good number of nice ones awaiting me.... :)
From an estate auction of an elderly medical doctor a ways back. This hand-painted has 'M F & Co. All Silk' on the reverse. Marshall Fields most likely.

Amazing ties! Just when you thought you've seen them all..... :eusa_clap
I've started scanning mine, too. It brings the fold lines out a bit too much, though. I'll admit, too, that I'll photoshop some of the flaws.
Classic...although not vintage....tortoise shell Wayfarers I got for a dollar and a half at a Goodwill...

Vintage B&L 12kt gold-filled frames I found at a yard sale for fifty cents. I had an optical shop put in tinted glass for $50.

Vintage Spanish-made frames I found used...
Although not vintage, this is a classic-style, Italian-made pair of Persols. I recently acquired them after waiting out the statute of limitations in the lost & found where I work...
