OK, I know that not in all cases is vintage better. My point is why is it that rabbit/beaver blends of old are so nice, and in my experience, only matched by modern 100% beaver. heads are not standardized. About two fingers above my ears is an area on my skull flat enough to retain a hat well. I think the hatmakers ceased to use mercury in the felting process and substituted it with hat heroin. I get the jitters if I go too long with no hat.
