"Mad Men" on AMC (US) - (Spoilers Within)

I came to Mad Men late, and have watched all six seasons in the last 3 months. Wow! It really drew me in, the character development was fabulous... until recently. I feel like I lost touch with the the characters during season six and, so far, season 7 isn't improving the situation. Peggy has...

    Is Hat Ettiquette Obsolete?

Absolutely. And I'm sure men do, too. :) Unfortunately, I got the feeling that the man I was dating was more interested in making himself feel special with his display of traditional-style etiquette. It was more about him, not me. He seemed to be putting on a show, not a show of respect.

    Is Hat Ettiquette Obsolete?

My first impression was to note that of the five men, only one was reaching for his hat. And I wondered, was it out of respect or was the gesture accompanied by a leer and/or rude comment? We'll never know. I grew up in 1960's America, the product of European parents. My father was a...

    Bring me baggy trousers!

Thanks, guys, I'm glad I asked here. It's occurred to me that the extra fabric inside the back of the cuffs would be there just to prevent wear, is that so?

    Bring me baggy trousers!

Are these pants true vintage? I'm thrown by the fact that they have no suspender buttons, and no sign of ever having had any. The fabric is a very neat coppery-brown and black stripe (photo isn't really true to color), likely a wool. There is a Talon metal zip, slightly dropped belt loops...

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Agreed. I won't play a guessing game with a seller. As soon as I see that an item has a reserve, I hit the back button.

    The Palm Beach suit thread

A black Palm Beach suit I've read through this whole thread and can't quite come to a conclusion about this Palm Beach suit... I know it's a later suit but could it be made of the coveted Palm Beach cloth? Since the union label is sewn on upside-down, I can't tell if there is a registration "R"...

    T-Shirts in the 1930s - 1940s

I love that 30s ad, what a handsome casual look for a man: a neat pocket T and pinstriped linen pants on a summer day. :) (And thanks for the vocab lesson: balbriggan.)

Thanks for the welcome, Mike. :) I hoped to work this piece into my own wardrobe but I need a true M. The feel of the silky rayon on these old shirts is just lovely!
