When I was still in the Army, if I saw anyone reporting in for the first time in my orderly room and I had time, I'd pop out of my office, introduce myself and ask the usual questions (where are you from, how long have you been here and what do you think of the area so far, etc).
One kid right...
I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. Even in Europe, it's legal to own these things if the weapons are deactivated.
there simply has to be more to the story than this...
I saw an interview with a highway patrol officer on TV recently and he was asked what annoying things he deals with and he said how common it is now once he pulls someone over and walks up to the car, and they keep talking on the phone holding the one finger up for that "wait a second" gesture...
I am utterly baffled how people can go all day talking to people on the phone if its a cell. Heck, I've never had that much to say to anyone in a given day.
I was at an airshow with my WW2 group last weekend and I watched a family of 4, each on a cell phone and having 4 different conversations...
Seems that people back in the day really were smarter in some ways. Look at the wool trousers that US soldiers and marines wore in WW1. They had a really baggy backside area to allow for a lot of movement in the legs. At some point, that went out of style. Plenty of times on active duty, I felt...
Had a kid throw his half-finished sandwich in a bag from a bus window through the open window of the Suzuki Samurai I was driving. I even heard snickers. I could see they were teens so it had to be intentional. I wasn't that much older than them at the time but knew I'd never have done that...
Honking at women? Even in my most clueless teen years, that never would have occurred to me as something that would yield results.
Never saw it before and was never a fan of the show, but the premise sure sounds about right to me.
I knew a guy who used to be a prison guard at the time and he swore that baggy pants thing started in prisons as an invite for other prisoners that said baggy pants person was... well, willing to accept back door deliveries.
I've laughed and pointed that out to a few young thugs types wearing...
I hates them dadgum kids, they won't git offen' mah lawn!
[huh]
But really, I live in WA state, and people here are notorious for consistently driving whatever speed they want in whatever lane. Hardly anyone has a concept of faster traffic to the left. My wife, who is from this area originally...
I recently rode the White Pass & Yukon RR for the second time in my life (my wife and I were re-creating our honeymoon trip on our 15th anniversary).
No steam running that day (locomotive 73 was sitting outside the Skagway shops with her smokebox lid removed) but other than that, not much has...
I just rode the White Pass & Yukon RR for the second time in my life (my wife and I were re-creating our honeymoon trip on our 15th anniversary).
No steam running that day (73 was sitting outside the Skagway shops with her smokebox lid removed) but if you didn't look up front to see the...
I grew up in rural Florida. When I moved away, I was always unnerved by front doors in houses in other regions for some reason.
One day, it dawned on me why; they didn't have screen doors. In Florida, every house had them. Where I live now, I can't recall the last screen front door I've seen...
In the Deep South, I used to hear, "I like to fell out," which denoted surprise over something.
Didn't make a lot of sense to me then.
Makes even less to me now.
Where's the third (same as the second?) one?
I see you live in Starke, FLA. I grew up in Tallahassee and we used to drive down 27 to the Ocala area twice a year. It was so sad to watch all the old gas stations and tourist spots dry up and rot away. They were in serious decline when I was a kid...
I worked with a woman who was a little nuts, in a religious way. She used to shoehorn the phrase, "My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" into almost every sentence she ever said. Most people either just ignored it or quit talking to her quickly upon realizing this. Thankfully I rarely had to talk...
