I have the new Aero waterfront with almost identical looking colour and pattern and love it. To get the best fit is go one size smaller with adjustments for sleeve and body length. Normally I'm a size 40 and had to go down to an adjusted 38 to get a nice fit. One of my best fitting jackets at...
I like the real deal leather as it has a lot of variation and character. Aero don't just assemble it willy nilly. They assemble the panels with the rougher bits oriented to the top of the body and sleeve panels which makes every jacket unique and aesthetically pleasing.
May not be to everyone's taste but I find the russet horsehide used by Aero almost identical to my original Dubow A-2 both in colour and finish. Personally I like it. I don't think I would buy a civie jacket in it. Much more suitable for the A-2.
I also have a pair of Whites boots with no name either and very similar inside writing. The construction has all the chracteristics of a Whites product. May have cost around $400 when new.
Apparently the B24's were more fragile when shot at and they had a tendency to burn easily or break in two. They were also dangerous on landing. In contrast the B17's were far more robust, could take a lot of punishment and were easier to fly.
They look like something made by Whites Boots or Nicks Boots. I would be confident this is made by Whites. These are top quality boots. I think you got an absolute bargain no matter who made them.
I have an Aero A-2 in russet jerky horsehide. I can confirm it does have a rich reddish brown tone. I would suggest to go for the real deal leather option for extra character.
Thanks Nick, tell us more about your ride and did your jacket survive? I have an original theatre worn a-2 from a b17 gunner that although leather is in great structural condition it has quite a few nicks, scars and a minor hole or two.
Hi Mike, some very nice stuff. Particularly like your jacket. You should re-post this thread in the Outerwear forum where there is a lot of interest in vintage motorcycle gear.
Cheers.
This is for sale on Ebay at the moment. If it was my size it will be all mine. Damn the luck. Very rare and they would be lucky to show up once a year on Ebay. Something Elvis would wear...
There was a Japanese Shogun in the Edo period known as the Dog Shogun. Not only did he love dogs but he banned the killing and eating of all animals and birds. One could be executed for being cruel to a dog or eating a bird. Apparently eating fish was OK because fish died naturally when taken...
There is a vegan shoe shop near where I live and they sell all kinds of faux leather shoes, boots and belts etc. Some vegan purists also shun products made of silk and wool. There is a growing consumer market for vegan goods aside from foodstuffs now. Not for me but each to his/her own. I do...
MY Aero A2 does not have the attached label to who made it but the worker was named on the worksheet or tag supplied with the jacket. Can't remember which piece of paper.
My aunt worked most of her life as seamstress for a high end suit maker. Because of her long standing experience and skills acquired, she did all the firms samples, custom work and odd jobs. With a company like Aero and dozens of different jacket designs, I imagine there will be specialists for...

Not sure if this link has been posted before but here are some great photos of the Shinki Tannery.

I have no doubt that AL/SB jackets are well made and would go toe to toe for quality with Aero and a lot of other premium makers. Still I wouldn't buy one. Their reputation sucks and hangs like a bad smell over their products. A lot of high end leather jacket appeal is ethereal and justifies...
