Yesterday's outside chores had hard working in a Tilley. When I got really hot I dunked it into water. No worse for the wear.
This morning was it was a black Warren for a dog soiree.
A morning walkabout in an un-lined Stetson Playboy. Not the usual ribbon treatment, but all...
...no grain at all. If I were to order again, I definitely would request grainy.
Consequently, I’ve put the jacket through the hotwatertreatment, or rather more of a cold watertreatment, to speed up the wear and give it some character. I soak it, and then instead of putting it in a dryer, I...
...looked it up. It's very uniform grain, I think it has a finished top coat too because it repelled water well when I did the hotwatertreatment to shape the collar.
Got it, I'll confirm with Shawn at five star. That's a bummer if it's printed, I still quite like it to be honest but if it is...
...2016. The color of this leather is much more steely gray then the true blue of the last couple batches I have not worn the jacket much but I did subject it to hotwatertreatment early on and so there are some areas where the top coat is wearing off and it is a lovely bronzed brown underneath.
What is the HotWaterTreatment and How to do it for Flying Jackets?
I've seen it mentioned but not sure how it's done, I have a pair of jackets, Irvin and B3 copies and they are both incredible bulky, so would like to shrink the pile a bit
Get a bottle of leather conditioner, something like Lexol or Pecards and apply it on the jacket, in like large amounts. Did you try the hotwatertreatment or what happened?
The picture above is before any treatment. More about this jacket: https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/fit-pics-lost-worlds-suburban-42l-grainy-4-5-oz-fqhh.101666/
Let me begin by saying that I read a lot of advice against doing this, that the leather used by LW supposedly won't need any...
Beautiful jacket. I didn't expect it to darken that much, looks great though. This jacket (and HD's jackets) inspired me to order one.
Yours is buffalo leather right? How does it compare to horsehide? Is it heavier, does it age differently?
And from here we go on to the other "could have been an exit jacket", and it is the the tan Buffalo from Thedi! It is not my first Thedi though, that honour goes to the grey CR covered earlier in this thread.
This jacket was a bit tight at first, then loosened up to be comfortable when I was...
Actually it's not too complicated, the collar has snaps underneath that attach to the body of the jacket...when undone and with a little hotwatertreatment I think it'll spread out all by itself. This is the same jacket in black:
Your time of 4 hours is in good agreement with another post I remember of applying Pecards Leather Dressing, which I believe has similar composition and consistency to the Grand National leather cream. That was 6 hours, working the dressing into the leather by hand, using heat of fingers and...
Neat. So wetting relaxes the leather, and its weight spreads it out a little all by itself? No need to, say, fix the collar in a spread position to 'force' it to spread?
Another unknown brand (to me at least), but those can often be the nicest finds. Looks good, Joe.
Very nice, Brent.
Perfection, Fabio.
It certainly deserves better. Man, what a hat!
The blue binding is all summer to my eye, Michael.
Killing it with the straws, Mark!
Might be worth trying to put that one, empty, under some very heavy books for a bit. Flattening it enough might put back some of the 'tightness' (I know what I'm trying to articulate here - I'm not doing it well, I hope you follow).
Alternatively - hotwatertreatment? ;)
You're not it aware of the latest research? Due to the properties of natural leather of absorbing everything it is subjected to and displaying it as a story, it has been found that salt watertreatment in Hawaï makes it compatible with flip flops. So it is your ticket to the only jacket that...
Hey, thanks for the replay. Sorry I didn’t respond earlier, ended up having to actually work for my paycheck.
I’ll try the conditioner again. I did it once follright after I got caught in the rain. I didn’t wear it dry, I draped it over a chair and when it was finally dry it was like armor.
