    Terms Which Have Disappeared

Frankly, love to use those old fashioned terms with "youngins" these days. Earl

Mighty fine trove of trucks. Been on a mission to find some new old ties. Picked up 5 recently, most of them featuring a "rougher" texture to go with my tweed, camel hair and wool sports coats as the cooler climes approach, including a saddle club wool tie and a Don Loper- a more traditional 1...

    What's for Dinner?

After being minutes away from a fatal heart attack 4 years ago, I've been on what I call the gun-to-the-head diet. Not a zealot, but have drastically reduced my fat level. Interestingly, though I didn't cut calories that much, just by cutting fat I dropped 50 pounds. Only way I would have...

    What's for Dinner?

Quiche-bacon, onion, broccoli and green peppers with cheddar cheese, along with yeast roles. Lemon and coconut bars made by my wife as dessert. Earl

    Show off the sports coats.

Got my first Harris tweed off of eBay just now. Didn't own a tweed and looking forward eagerly: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Harris-Tweed-Mens-42-Short-100-Wool-Blazer-Sport-Coat-In-Excellent-Condition-/231045047046?pt=US_CSA_MC_Blazers_Sport_Coats&hash=item35cb5ba306 Earl

For years, did the small knot. Now, depending on the tie, prefer larger knots. Agree about double-breasted suit jackets, though do like and own double-breasted top coats. Earl

Since I only know how to do word pictures, guess I should have described them: dress patent leather with contrasting dark brown and cream. I just discovered the long running spectator shoe thread here and learned that there were many variations of spectator types, not just colors. Earl

    Terms Which Have Disappeared

As for current usage, only 1 that stands out is SNAFU, though it's rarely used. As I recall, it originated in WWII. Earl

    Terms Which Have Disappeared

Boy those phrases bring back memories. Older folks referring to refrigerators as "frigidairs." Hey, I resemble that remark. As to referring to certain products by brand names, I recall referring to photocopying something as "Xeroxing it." Earl

One doofus or an annoying trend in socks?

Had to give up on sandals this year as, due to meds I take, I bruise easily and when I wear any shoe wear sans socks, it causes me small toes to bruise painfully. And am not about to wear sock with sandals. Earl

    Autumnal Thoughts........

No, just a side-benefit. But, what can I say? Like the wardrobe which stays in the closet til there's a chill in the air. Earl

    Autumnal Thoughts........

Stiffness of joints is rather a year-round albeit intermittent thing for me already. Fashion-wise, cool weather months are my favorite. Can't put on my camel hair or wool sports jackets or my sweaters unless daytime highs stay a fair bit under 60 and can't really put on my topcoats til we're...

    Autumnal Thoughts........

Definitely a spring and fall guy. Was trying to trim the vines around my decorative pond tonight. 95 with mosquitoes. What's to like? Earl

One doofus or an annoying trend in socks?

Well, at least it is a constructive means of dealing with the mysterious disappearance of single socks in the laundry process. Earl

What's something modern you won't miss when it becomes obsolete?

Our first floor is all stone tile or wood flooring. It's a 113 year-old Victorian. Second floor is carpeted. Only linoleum is in the bathrooms. Earl
